My 2011 Silverado had the entire gauge cluster go out while driiving, no odometer, speedometer, tachometer, gas or gears displayed. The truck was only several months old and had just over 10,000 miles on it! Within 2,000 miles of that, the rubber trim on the roof both sides came unglued and blew off on the freeway, causing the car behind me to swerve! I was proud to own an American and Union made vehicle, and I was happy with it, but honestly...how hard is it to put some quality into the damn thing!
I take that back, I had one other GM issue. I bought a brand new 2003 tahoe back in the day, within 15k miles. the sunroof had to be replaced twice for leaking and the cluster went out. In fact GM had a recall on the cluster like 2 times in 4 years for 2003 thru 2005 models.
I've got another, this time involving my mom's 2008 Mercedes GL450. Apparently the earlier GL's had numerous reliability issues. Hers kept throwing "check engine" codes, most of which were oxygen sensors in the exhaust, so we replaced those many times. A year or so after she got it, the air suspension in the front completely failed, but fortunately that was fixed under warranty. However, when the car went out of warranty is when we began to have issues. For most of November, my mom was driving loaner cars from Mercedes due to numerous problems with the car. Something with the steering rack went wrong--a known issue for those cars caused by a fault in the front end design, but Mercedes didn't do anything to help pay for the repair. Again with the oxygen sensors that kept failing, and she also had an issue with the rear gate closing mechanism. Since the car had only been out of warranty a few months and the dealer was unhelpful in getting all of those problems fixed, she traded it in on a nice X5. I've since heard that the newer GL's are much improved in terms of reliability.
