So last few weeks I have been looking forward to spring break as it will be when I can bust out the rotary and use it for the first time and give my GTI a proper correction. Well just got a email which is going to have to make me put that on hold maybe...got a on-site interview in Atlanta in the middle of my break ,:headbang:, so one hand i am bumed I may not be able to do the detail on the other hand I am stoked for the second interview, :lol:. Just excited, haha, if anyone has any tips or hints let me know! haha
Congrats Ankeet! Hey being pretty much the same age as you, I know how tough the market can be for a young person right now so kudos to you that is awesome you got a second interview. My biggest suggestions based on interviews I have done within the last year... 1. Try and and plot out some general questions they may ask you so when they do ask you are quick to respond without having to hesitate and think. 2. Think of trying times in your life or times where you displayed leadership, hard work, and determination so when they ask for behavioral type questions you can support your responses with actual examples. 3. Ask as many questions as you can, employers love when you ask questions and they do not have to carry the interview. Go in with at least 10 potential questions to ask. Even ask them about their experiences as an associate. 4. If you can mention something about something outside work such as a hobby (detailing) in a response, sometimes employers like to know you dedicate yourself to things outside work so they know you have a good work/life balance. just a few helpful responses since I was in your shoes not too long ago. Thanks! I will be doing some background research on them and what not so I know more than the basic stuff and get some questions and what not setup. Hmmm, wonder if I can slip them a sample of some wax if that would increase my chances or just bring my detailing stuff with me and offer to do there car? :lol:
haha detailing is always the best bribe, do a 50/50 on their car and they won't be able to deny you lol
Congrats on the second interview. Great tips by Chas. Depending on the position go over a few situational an behavioural questions. Also if you can do a few mock interviews. That definitely helps !
Tips on interviews: 1. Know about the company 2. Show an interest in the company 3. Be sure to tell them you want a job with the company 4. Have some career goal that fits in the companies mission (if they make cars, tell them you like cars) when they may ask about your long term career goals 5. Be enthusiastic and responsive to questions 6. If they ask what your strengths and weaknesses are, be prepared for positive sounding weaknesses. 7. Most companies want employees that are self-directed and results oriented types (always good words for the resume) That is they can get stuff done without a lot of direction. A lot of engineers can just play with designs forever or never get done...They cannot make decisions. Perfection is not always possible.
Thanks Bunky! Good thing is my Co-Op experience has taught me a lot of design engineering and that there are many ways to a solutions, yadda yadda and how to direct a team and do self-directed designing.
+1 on going into the interview with some questions and knowledge about the company. When I interviewed for my current job, I had researched the company, knew the product line and had a list of questions. When they asked me my goals, I made no bones about telling them I wanted to be management within 5 years. It took 10 months..lol. Good luck and go in there with confidence.
Congrats! General tip would be to do your research about the company... Know what they do, how they do it, where they do it, whom they do it with etc, etc.... Also figure out what you are bringing to the table is respect to the knowledge you gain about the company.... You should also have your own questions, this is not only an interview given by them to make sure you fit with them but also a chance for you to interview them to make sure they fit with you!

Most importantly, I would recommend making sure you are relaxed. This makes a world of difference both in the experience you have and in the eyes of an interviewer. Also, don't spend more than 50% of the time talking about your work experience and personal history. Instead, take more time to explain what you will bring to the table and how the company can directly benefit from hiring you. Other than that, I wish you the best of luck. We have all been there but I think you have it covered, so don't even sweat it!
