Sonax wheel cleaner review...

Some folks have asked about the Sonax products and how well they work so today myself and Rustbucket did a small test to show you all how effective the Sonax wheel cleaner is. The Sonax wheel cleaner is a PH neutral formula and is not acidic and is really very gentle on all types of rims. I have personally used it to great effect on my old GTI that had diamond cut faces and clear coated inners with no problems what so ever.

This is the wheel before, hasn't been washed in around 2 to 3 weeks so there is a fair amount of brake dust build up.

After letting the product sit for a few minuted you will begin to notice it turns a purplish colour as it gets to work on the brake dust.




Rinsing the wheels. I mentioned in the other thread that we would use the normal hose and nozzle as we didn't yet have a pressure washer.....Well today we saw a small one an sale and promptly bought it.




Some pics after rinsing. Note no brushes or cloths were used, this was simply rinsing with the pressure washer.



As you can see above there were still a few areas that had some brake dust and dirt on so we applied some more product and let it sit for a few moments again.

Overall I think you can all see how effective the Sonax wheel cleaner is, we used no brushes on the wheels and they came out pretty good. Naturally with some brushes and a little extra work you can easily remove all of the marks :woot:

That is great! Thanks for sharing. I have a follow-up question, please. D&D has always tought me to start with the least aggressive product first. :giggle: See D&D I still remember. So... If it can remove the brake dust with no effort...how harsh is this product? What is the PH, please?

I remember using the NTS7 rim cleaner and the instructions on their website would say that the stuff would turn red when it's doing its job, but it never did!

 

Thats some incredible stuff there. I can't belive how well they came out with no scrubbing! And at that price I agree with FMINUS "Phil are you listening?"

Me favorite wheel cleaner is P21S gel. Yes, it's expensive (almost $100 for 5 liters), but is well worth it.

 

Tonya I don't have the actual PH but will stop by a pharmacy tonight and get one of those ph strips and check. It is listed by Sonax as being acid-free, and the ingredients are as follows :

· AQUA
· SODIUM THIOGLYCOLATE
· SODIUM GLUCONATE
· SODIUM CITRATE
· SODIUM ETHYLHEXYL SULFATE
· SODIUM DIETHYLENETRIAMINE PENTAMETHYLENE PHOSPHONATE
· PERFUME (I doubt it coz it smells horrid)
· METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE
· BENZISOTHIAZOLINONE

The product we buy is called Sonax Extreme wheel cleaner, part number 230.7051, according to the guys at Sonax it is the same product as this , just comes in a 5l bottle as opposed to a small spray bottle.

 

I found the following on the Sonax site, have asked our Sonax guys if they can possibly get the test reposts from Sonax over in Germany for us to see.
