Great quote. One thing I want to say is that, what regulations are in place to ensure that "staining and fading" doesn't happen, aside from diluting the original cleaner?

Aluminum foil is a No-No. I heard a story where someone wrapped an alternator with it and it melted. Due to the connections on the back.

In regards to water flooding the engine bay, all these vehicles probably get more drenched driving in a rain storm, then when we do a engine detail job. Sounds like we need Myth Busters to conduct a Simple Green test.

I still have to wash a single engine, just don't feel comfortable whatsoever doing this. Wouldn't stuff just start rusting under there??? And pouring water on a battery just doesn't sound very smart...

I really like the outcome of your engines. I use the same cleaners and method as you do. I just need some more practice...:thumb:

if your careful and cover up the proper components no worries..all cars get water in the engine bay..it's not like it's sealed and only air gets in. but no water isn't constantly gushing over it but it gets wet..i use p21s total auto wash and get the same results..it looks so good after..like new. never had one issue in 17000 miles..it is super easy and takes 15 mins depending on the dirt level.. i use a swissvax brush and a boars hear short handel wide brush from Detailersdomain..i cover parts with foil..works to perfection.i use the shower type feature for rinsing on a regular hose..i don't use the pressure washer. it's amazing what a couple spritz of p21s TAW can do with a lil agitation. i use cd-2 mostly for the dressing.

Interesting thread. I spray cool engines with Blue ribbon Red Rage (engine degreaser) and be very carefull to not let it get out onto the fenders or cover fenders with damp towels. I let it sit a few minutes and pressure wash with a 2500 psi washer. I avoid as much direct contact with electrical connetions and plugs as possible. Out of probably 200 engines (18 yrs) only one ever came back and it was a 2005 Dodge mid size pick up and a little moisture got into one plug. even the dodge dealership said it had to be fluke. I then take a shop vac and get puddled water then take a rag and get the majority or the remaining water . then I dress and wipe off any excess dressing and close the hood. I will show some pictures as soon as I figure out how. Now my dressing is flamable and not recommended on engines. I see it like this it's only flamable until it dries.

forgot to mention if any of you are like me I clean my engines several times a year. to avoid corrosion from water in electrical plugs. I spray them with Boesheild T-9(repellant/lube) which was created by Boeing Aircraft Manufacturer for lube and corrosion protection.
