Poish/Waxing Windshield

I am planning on polishing and waxing my wind shield.

Which pad do guys recommend? I've seen those flat looking pads. But I think I'll stick to a CCS.

I have 1Z glass polisher, sip, 106fa, 85rd, 3m ultra fina se.
And all ccs pads.

Which do you think is the best combination? There aren't crazy deep scratches. But it looks like there are some very small scratches that I want to get rid of.


As for waxing....should i wax and glaze it?

I've never used an actual foam pad or paint polish on glass. Not sure you're supposed to or if it'll even work.

When I polish my windshield, I apply 1Z Glas Polish liberally with a foam pad and let it haze. Then I attach a LC 5.5" Glass Polishing Pad (bought mine from Autogeek) to my UDM, moisten it with a spritz of deionized/distilled water, and go to town on the windshield just like I would panel. Other glass polishes I believe you are to apply to the pad, but doing that with 1Z Glas Polish never worked for me. When I'm done, water can't even bead, it just sheets off. I've then applied something like Klasse AIO or Aquawax to the windshield. This winter I'm trying Aquapel.

I polish my windshield with 1Z glass polish with a green egde pad and then a blue edge pad...nice...:thumb:

I just use normal polish and a polishing pad. I'm not quite sure what the glass polishes has that the traditional polishes don't.

 

Well I've tried polishing windows form some of my vehicles but it comes down to the make and model of the vehicle. The reason I say that is because some vehicles come with some sort of UV protection on the glass them selves...for example, my Lexus seem to have some sort of protection on the glass and I applied a coat of wax on them and it was a mess. Not only did it take me for ever to buff off but due to that protection the glass had it looked really bad...I asked the dealership what kind of protection the glass came with and they told me it's some sort of UV protection along with some kind of water protection as well...um..I honestly don't remember the exact explanation but any who the point is that some vehicles you'll get a way with putting a coat of wax/sealant. Others you may not.

not the glass tempered or made with another process or additive?

today i went at my windows in the 335 with a UK 3m black waffle finishing pad and 85rd just to rid it of some marks and they came right out.. no problem..except it's glass and glass heats up fast..i realize there is absolutely no way 85rd is gonna cut glass but the they came out with a nice glossy clear finish now i think i am gonna go over the rear and front with 1z glass polish and a green pad before i use cleaner fluid and seal with js 109 and probably BOS..then Tuesday another coat of Smaragd...

i really am hesitant to compound i really don't wanna create a wavy effect..just some light abrasion to remove stains and other crap that windows love to hold onto.

 

Well it's not a film type or anything like that...I think it's more how the glass was made/manufatucred. The glass is not tintent in the traditional way but the glass it's self has a tint..if that makes sense :shead:

Well it' snot really tint, it's that protection that they come with...it's odd becuase it dosen't let in as much sun light..oh and it beads water extremely well.

The vehicle is due to go in the dealership..:shakehead:... so I may ask again what it's in the glass or what that protection is..for all I know it could be a simple UV protection :shrug:

 

I put JS109 on my windshield after 1z Glas Polish, and a Menz TI clean... it worked great for like a week.

The JS simply wouldn't hold up on the windsheild. My guess was it didn't have anything to bond too? Maybe I messed something up.

I'm going to try some Aquapel this winter... I've heard some good things.

 

for those who use a buffer with the 1Z glaspolish, do you put it on the pad like you would when polishing the paint, and work it in?

Aquapel is nice BTW. If you have a Harbor Freight near you, get it there. I get it for less than $6 a pop.

 

My two cents is stick to Aquapel, you can get usually 9 months of longevity

 

If you guys are after the "Rain-X Effect," here's a different way to get it: PIAA Super Silicone wiper blades. For the first month or two at least, they apply a very Rain-X like coating to the swept area. In fact, the install instructions suggest running the wipers dry for five minutes after installing them. It works very well.

i just put 1z glass polish on a white polishing pad on the rear window after trying diamondite foam clay

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DOES DIAMONDITE FOAM CLAY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it sucked so much the scubber made lines in the clay and it looked like i scratched the glass all over.. i will never in my life use that product!!!! even spraying lusso glass on it it did NOTHING.. i was in utter chock.. esp after i just spent more than 10-12 hours giving my 335 the royal treatment.. thx god 1z got it off.. i really didn't wanna bust out clay to remove clay.. all in all using 1z made me realize why have bought like 5 cans this summer.. it adds the nice gloss that i didn't get with 85rd.. but with 85rd all i was looking for was to clean and it did it well but the tough thing is glass get's hot and you have to use a lot to keep it cool which means it never really breaks down.. for the second it does it dries up and if you use a lot it will splatter.. still it got the glass super clean..

1z adds so much gloss though and really makes the glass one with a nicely 85rd prepped jeweled finish.. it completes the flow rd never gave..rd just made glass look well, like glass..plain and boring..1z makes un-tinted windows have a super glossy look.

 

I always use a normal polish and Opti Seal, that has worked for me very well.

 

I wouldn't have thought to use Opti-Seal. I have some, I'll have to give it a try.

 

I really like Duragloss Nu Glass. Easily the best polish Ive used on glass. It removed acid rain on glass, which I didn't think was possible

The other thing I like about them is that they look like plain old windshield wipers. I don't much care for the all-plastic ones that seem to be coming into popularity.

 

I just rec'd some and have not had a chance to try it yet. I've heard good things. Glad you like it...:thumb:
