I'll get right to my point: I like to know what kind of paint I'm working with when it comes to a correction job. I think it might be a good idea for a detailer like myself who doesn't have 10+ years experience and knowledge to know ALL paints and their quality. So I would suggest that everyone who has info pitch in to make a database of all different Car brands and their quality of paint. Ex.: Brand / Model+Year /Color / Paint type / Quality / Notes BMW / 2008 335I / Metallic Black / Base Coat-Clear Coat / High / Paint is very hard and resistant to scratches, but also makes for difficult and long correction. It doesn't even need to be that specific, just a general idea of the manufacturer's paint. Brand / Model+Year /Color / Notes Honda / 2008 S2000 / Black / Soft Paint - Only light correction needed. Anyways, that's just my input. I know I'd appreciate the info, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd benefit. Cheers!
i have tried to start same thread but it was pretty much shut down becouse you never know if paint is original or not you just have to know what kind of paints makers used in what years to give you general idea Audi - very hard clear BMW - e46 M3 have ceramic clear, not sure about new onces but regular 335 and such paint is pretty soft Honda/acura - relatively soft clear Subary - very soft clear, some years have sticky clear wich not good to use with rotary GM - id say average clear hardness Z06 Corvette prior to 02 have VERY hard clear (one with fiberglass body panels) MB after 05 have ceramic clear infinity about average soft clear, some years of g35 had "self healing" clear but dont think they have it anymore great idea is to read write ups in show and pro section to see how detailers described clear and what kind of products been used to correct paint, if you see use of M105 then most likely car has hard clear or it was in VERY bad shape just my 2 cents
