Opti-Bond - general external vinyl/trim dressing?

Has anyone used Opti-Bond as a durable trim dressing like on plastic cowlings, plastic facias, etc. It only costs about $16 for a QUART.

 

I use it 1:1 dilution with water on all exterior trim because it looks great and goes on very easily. You have to make sure you use very little because it you fail to apply it sparingly, you will get some streaking after rain but any streaking comes off much easier than the streaks that other trim products have left in the past.

If using straight Opti-bond, it leaves a nice dark sheen on external trim which I think is almost perfect for most trim. However, cutting it 1:1 leaves a more natural satin finish which looks brand new which is what I personally prefer.

 

Thanks. I am used to buffing off trim after using dressing. I typically apply, let it soak (usually do something else), and then buff off very well.

 

I put some new rear tires on my truck and decided to "prep" them with Opti-Bond. Put it on nicely, then waited for it to dry before topping it with Z8 and left it overnight in the garage.

Went on a 200 mile drive the next day, and splatter all over the side of my truck. NOT PLEASED.

 

If anyone wants to trade a sample of this for something else, I have some items in the trading section.

 

But does it last? It's good for a week or two on my tires.

 

It lasts surprisingly long, probably one of the longer lasting external trim dressings I have used. Durability is on par with Poorboy's Trim Restorer but I would say that it lasts 3-4 weeks. The initial sheen lasts 2 weeks but the trim is still beading and dark for another week or two after that.

 

I used it diluted at like 3:1 or 4:1 on Billyblooshoes' GTI grille and he was rather impressed with it. I think he said it lasted a pretty long time and shed water. I hope he chimes in here.

 

Love it for my tires, but I'll stick with Ultima Tire and Trim Guard for trim work. On for 4 months, no garage and still looks good.
