Good points and I agree with you. But, and perhaps I missed it somewhere, was the guy just driving it at a brisk pace, given it a bit of welly at the spotlights, or was he track racing it and it broke?

And yes, all cars have growing pains. No doubt about that. That is exactly why I personally would steer away from buying a vehicle in its first year...

You can floor the GT-R all day, every day and it will withstand it. The transmissions have broken under hard launches, known as Launch Control, keeping the car in 1 spot, revving it up to 6,000 rpm or so and letting it loose all at once. The guys who have the car says it feels like the transmission is solid and won't break. They all agreed that it would take some kind of condition and repeatedly rapidly using it to break it.

I think it is a misuse of the LC feature that breaks the tranny, because there are some modded GT-R's out there running at 600hp+ with hundreds of LC's on their belt and their owners said they are holding up fine and running 10's in the 1/4 mile. I think the whole thing is blown out of proportion.
