So with the recent passing of my father I decided to get my next tattoo. I'll hopefully be getting it soon, just not sure where i want it placed as of now. I would like some suggestions. as of now i am in between getting it on my left side (next to my ribs) or on my back, on the right shoulder. heres what i want to get, its still being worked on since i did pull the it from a pic of someones actual tattoo, so some areas need to be adjusted. if i do get it on my side it will be fairly large. also my main concern is being able to hide the tattoo for work. I'm majoring in business and i still dont know what turns my career will take so i dont want to have a huge tattoo on my shoulder that may be seen through my shirt.. as ive been advised a tattoo can be looked down upon and could cost me a promotion or position in the future :shrug: so i want to hear what a few of you think, as i know some of you have some ink
I will throw my two sense in here. I'm the CEO of a large local financial institution in New Orleans. Although we do not hire or fire because of a tattoo, I will tell you that they are not looked upon as "Professional" in the business world. In the case of my company, any tellers and/or customer reps are not allowed to have tattoos visible, no nose, lip, eye brow or any other like piercings. Ear piercings are limited to one in each ear. Any tattoo must be covered whether by clothing or as one girl has, a bandaid covering a tattoo on her finger. I know that some will say it's what the person is not what they look like that matters, and I agree, but when your customers sit down to discuss their retirement and life savings which usually amounts to severl million dollars, they do not want to be sitting across soeone with a big tattoo. If it were me and you really wanted it, I would find a spot at would not be visible. You don't want to chance going on an interview and having your dream job come down to decision of two people one with a visible tatoo and one without. I can guarantee you that the person without the tattoo will get the job offer over the one with the tattoo 99% of the time. Again, I know people are going to say that is not fair, but that is the world we live in. Hope this helps.
I think anywhere on you back should be fine. If you wear a undershirt under the dress shirt, those 2 layers shold hide the tattoo no problem.
Hey Ev, I have two tattoos and I work in corporate America and as long as they are not visible and no one ever nows you should be fine. I have both of mine at the top of my arms and even with short sleeves they do not show. I would just wear an average length t-shirt the day you get it and use that as a template for sleeve length and where to position it. I have a cross as well and I find that I have plenty of room. If they do see it though it definitely can be looked down upon, I know several people here that have them visible and while its not talked about you can definitely tell it limits them. Damn cool design though, I have a Greek Orthodox cross and love it. Like floraneg I work in the finance world and if a client were to see that, even though you are a great person, it could be portrayed negatively.
I have 3 tattoos and will be getting many more, you would never see any of mine even with a t shirt...
I have a coworker that has to wear long sleeve shirts when it is 100 degrees :devil: outside because his tattoo is a full sleeve and my company won't let you have visible tattoos. Keep it hidden. It is not worth the gamble. Good luck.
Completely understand what you're saying. I actually already have a tattoo on my right thigh. Since my family looks down upon tattoos, i chose to have mine hidden, as well as wanting to be able to look professional. Sadly image is a lot when working in corporate america, (which i have already worked in for a few years) and thats why i am debating the spot to get it on. thanks for your input, it backed up my belief. yeh a tank would cover it if its on my side, but if its on upper right back, it could be seen if i wear a white shirt. Yeh man right now im like 90% sure i want it on my side, so i should be safe yeh like the one i have now. a proffessor i had once asked if anyone had a tattoo and when i said i did, she asked to see it, and i said id have to take my pants off lol. seriously though i like that it can be hidden easily. i was thinking on my upper right side. now im leaning towards getting it on my left side of my torso lol sucks, i wouldnt ever get sleeves. theyre just too much for me. i like ink but in moderation.
i have a girl that has on her back neck she has long hair so she hides it i'm sorry did not know if ya a girl or guy lol for a guy on the back girl on the neck is good but depends on the girl. it is a tough decision. i try to get pic an post so you can see.
