Got myself a new tv the other day!! LG Plasma 50in. I ordered a new reciever for the home theater with the Klipsch speakers and Cerwin Vega subs :chips: Lord of the Rings looks good on it!!
Nice! I need to get one soon for my bedroom. I still have one of those old ones and it won't work as of June due to the digital conversion.
Awesome TV Heath, what are the specs or what model is it? I have the http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...visions&subtype=lcdtv&model_cd=LN40B650T1FXZA but unfortunately no satellite TV, receiver, speakers or subwoofer... what an epic fail, haha. However, I do have a PS3 hooked up so that keeps me entertained... for now. : I was thinking of either purchasing a Denon or Yamaha receiver and maybe pairing those with Bose or Polk Audio speakers. I think I might go with a Velodyne sub since that's what we have in the family room and it hits pretty hard!
Not that I'm an audiophile, or know ANYTHING about being an audiophile. But every single person who knows their stuff about sound, and home theatre says to stay away from Bose, FAR AWAY. They said you can get stuff twice as good for half the price--that you're only paying for the name really. :shrug: Just what I've heard...
Bose makes extremely good speakers and are usually ahead of the curve in speaker technology. You pay for the name because the name is so good. I had a pair of 301's when I was in college and the woofer tore away from the foam outer layer. I could crank it up and average Joe couldn't tell which speaker was torn. Now your statement about being able to piece together a better speaker system for less money is 100% correct though. Bose gives you everything in one package and gives a good all around sound. If you don't have the time to do the research and listen to a bunch of different setups then Bose is perfect for you. You have to be careful when piecing together so things sound right together. If you like bass stay away from Infinity. Infinity makes great speakers but not for a bunch of bass. If you like a more bass sound go with Polk Audio. Not a lot of bass as say Cerwin Vega but more than Infinity. If you are going to piece a system together you need to know what you like and the characteristics of various manufacturers.
Gotcha. Plus I guess most audiophiles are just anti bose in the first place, huh? :shead: ... And dont mind dropping $10,20,30k+ on HT setups
Nice, very nice. Saw a new LG 60" plasma at Costco yesterday. I'm in love. Well, with that and the 70" Sony I saw a month ago.
Thanks guys!! Come on over Seth. Denzil, its a LG 50PQ30 is the model #. Its a 720p. Jordan. I'll be running Klipsch L7 THX certified front and center. Klipsch bi-pole THX certified surrounds and 2 Cerwin Vega powered 12's. Denon 1609 reciever and a Sony upconversion dvd player.
JLs and all, with all due respect, you really don't want to buy the modern day Bose stuff. I know the 301s are very well respected and were very good back in their day, but those little cubes just aren't gonna get it done. I've listened to Bose systems where all those little cubes are plugged into the sub module, and if you unplug the little cubes, you'll still hear male voices coming from the sub. That's not exactly supposed to happend. Do me a favor, and try to find the frequency range specs on any Bose system. Can't be done. I remember getting into a "discussion" with a Bose rep a few years ago at Ultimate Electronics, and asked her about frequency response. She really didn't have an answer for me except that they don't believe in specs, just whether it sounds good or not. Hmmm, think about that guys, that's like buying a rotary and not knowing it's RPM range. Trust me, there are several other very good viable options out there for less money from Mirage, Energy, Atlantic Technology, Definitive Technology, and I could go on and on. I agree but majority of folks would say you are speaking a foreign language when you start talking frequency response to them. They don't really understand it and a package system like Bose is a great alternative. Otherwise they get talked into something by some guy working at an electronics store that knows about as much about frequency response as he does emergency response, and the end product he recommends is probably not as good. You have to admit that Bose was ground breaking with those little cubes. I mean when the AM 5's came out what happened in the speaker industry...EVERYBODY went from the free standing floor speakers to much much much smaller speakers and a sub to deliver as good if not better sound than most free standing floor speakers. Everyone followed Bose on this. Another thing that in most audiophiles arguement is that Bose was using a passive sub but it was actually quite ingenious when you consider it from a marketing standpoint. The cubes would ONLY work with their passive sub so it became propietary. You couldn't just go grab some cubes from Bose and hook them up to your powered sub. The biggest downfall for Bose was producing for more big chain stores. But hell everyone has done that. I remember when I was in college that you couldn't find anyone that even knew what Denon was if you were not in a very high end electronics store, now you could buy one from Circuit City before they went under. Polk Audio, Infinity, and many others have gone more mainstream big box stores. I don't deny that you can get much better for the price of Bose but if you don't know what you are doing you will spend as much on a system as a Bose system and it won't sound that great because the sound matching will not be great. If you have access to someone that knows their audio equipment like DJ Johnny V then use them and you will get an incredible sounding system for less money but if you don't going with Bose is not the end of the world and really far from it.
FWIW, I bought a Schwinn Bike at a specialty bike store for $700... 4 years later they sell at walmart for $250 . SELL OUTS. Back on topic--I agree on both counts.
