A congressman reported that a constituent complained to them that they did not want the government take over Medicare with the new health care bill. Hmm.
its not the fact that drugs are expensive, its that they treat, not cure the condition. if the rx companies made drugs that cured people they would go broke. so instead they develop drugs that keep you alive as long as you take them. yeah sure i know some illnesses have no cures yet. but infect all the top ceo's of drug companies and see how fast a cure is found.
Ok.. ok.. Guys, listen I have free health care in Canada.. I like it, tax is about 13% here.. Its not THAT bad, I mean those people who don't have a job won't have it any better. The government does other things with your money than just spend it on fixing up crack heads.
My income tax rate hasn't been 13% since I was in high school thirty years ago. And, while there are some great things about our health care system, one thing's for sure: it ain't "free." Not that that means anything, we just pay for it in a different way. And speaking of Big Pharma, the only reason I can get up and go to work every day with psoriatic arthritis is because of the amazing drugs that have been researched and developed and brought to market by the pharmaceutical companies. They have every right to make a profit off of those drugs, just like anyone in business. I'm not in a wheelchair because of them, and I'm grateful for that every day.
I'm from Belgium, regarded as among the best healthcare systems in Europe. The advantages of the state mutuelle/mutualiteit scheme is that you can choose any doctor, clinic or hospital you like, in any location and without referral, according to your needs in much the same way as you can with private insurance. Once you are employed by a Belgian company, your contributions and those of your employer will be automatically deducted from your salary by the National Office for Social Security. Then you sign up with a health insurance fund, which will reimburse your medical costs. To take you on, they will need a written certification of employment signed by your employer. You are free to choose any company you want. Although most of them are affiliated to a religious or political institution, there is no real difference because reimbursement rates are fixed by the Belgian government. These funds do not, however, cover 100 percent of your bills; you may be compensated for about half to three-quarters of a typical doctors or specialists visit.
what is this? i have been in constant pain for over 20 years. my mom had bad arthritis and i have been tested for osti and rheumatoid but never heard of this. they thought it was the nerve disease, dont remember what its called though
My take on this... First Big Pharma. Aside from them cutting a deal with the Administration to get the cross hairs off their back (Mr. Alligator, please eat me last), I have a high opinion of pharma companies. You think it's tough making money in the car business - try drugs. Clinical trials last years and can cost billions of dollars. So they make money when the finally clear all the hurdles and bring a miracle drug to market. My brother takes Plavix and it's $5 a pill. $450 for a 90 day bottle. Too much? Maybe, but that's 30% less than the pack of cigarettes he had to give up. His attitude is bring 'em on. The more miracle drugs the better. Insurance companies. Above brother had a angioplasty and two stents in his RCA. "Evil" Aetna came through with flying colors. The easiest thing out there. They have on-line access to your case you can check from their website. They pay right now. He said it was as seamless as having Bill Gates' ATM card. Everything was a GO with Aetna. Everything! Doctors. The surgeon was first class and charged a fair rate. Hospitals. These guys were nuts. They first claimed 30K a day but said that Aetna brought them down to 10K a day. Still a huge rip. Ambulance ride. Went to wrong campus when he first got there. Trip .9 miles? $1300. Aetna paid it. He's no corporate CEO. Works in a warehouse - just one of the 85% of Americans who like (make that love) their health care. Interesting article: A Canadian got the same thing done - at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit: Canadians visit U.S. to get care | Detroit Free Press | Freep.com Niiiice! There are problems, but this single payer crap will put us all in Medicade. They can't handle Cash4Clunkers, H1N2 virus, medicare. Can anybody honestly say that's what we want or deserve?
So you're basically saying there's a conspiracy to keep people sick? No one of the tens of thousands of research scientists has blown the whistle? Ya, pills that make you 100% in 4 hours are right next to the 200 mile carburator on Dick Cheny's office shelf. CEOs and their family members get sick and die every day of the week! I can't really say in a civil form what I think of you remark!
I am telling you guys that the health care industry wants nationalized health care without the public option. Why? You must get health care and they get to provide it. There has to be a public option since the Obama administration has supported health care without the Medicare caps. That is, Medicare dictates what companies get paid (no one is really turning this money away) but leaving the general plan open means your wallets will be opened. We need heath care reform to control costs but beware in every reform there is profit in the final compromise.
How many people leave the USA to go elsewhere for medical procedures ?? The system might need changes but the government isn't the one we need running it. Paul S
Polotictians and Diapers have 1 thing in common, They should both be changed regularaly, and for the same reason :giggle:
