Some of you may remember a while back I posted a write-up of a Toyota FJ Cruiser I had done, and me also commenting on how I gave the owner a discount since he gave me a discount on my car. Well, after finally getting around to detailing it and having batteries in the camera, I snapped a few shots of it. Here it is, my new 2011 Scion tC2:
I had the 06, I really thought it was a well made car for the price point..... wife used it for commuting. I do like the new ones more, they are more aggressive looking........ great looking car.
What do you think of the way it drives? I drive around an '07, and I dislike it very much after driving my 330i for a while, hahaha. I'm 23 and still want a boy racer car though.
Thanks. Well, in comparison, the 1st gen and mine are basically 2 completely different cars. The chassis is now borrowed from a Lexus and uses a revised version of their double wish-bone suspension in the rear with MacPherson type in front, and the engine is now the new Camry engine which has 180HP and 175ft/lbs of Torque, and it also has a completely new transmission with 6 close ration and very precise gears. In all honesty, being as picky as I am with cars, I didn't think I was gonna approve of it before I went on the the test drive - funny story, I was already planning my "why I'm not taking it" speach and was very disoriented when I realized that I DID want the car -, but it is a wonderful car to drive on the daily. In recent times, I've driven a few" higher up" cars and I've been quite disappointed. For example, I've driven a 2008 BMW 335xi coupe and a 2011 Lexus isF. To me, both cars felt heavy, and slouchy on accelerations. Both had steering that was too hard/heavy and not crisp enough (again, in comparison with this Scion), and both suspensions were too soft for the car's weight. This car, for its price, is by far the best buy a "driver" could want as a DAILY DRIVER. but I'd never take this car to the track as is. The stock tires are not wide, or grippy enough, the brakes are a little soft, and weight balance is off, but none of this matters in a DD. I can't compare it to my RX-7, as THAT is a drivers car for the track - and it basically tries to kill you when you drive it, lol -, but I can say that in the car world, this Scion is the equivalent to Collinite 845. It does everything you want and more, while looking great and being reliable, for the best price around.
i had an 05. It was my first car ever. I got it when i was 16 then came the turbo i really like these new ones. The styling is amazing. And they have some amazing color options from the factory, i remember seeing one that was a gray, but it was basically a matte color. Also really cool how they upped the power a little, and how now its a 6 speed manual trans, instead of the 5 speed. Plus the interior looks cool too, for example all the speakers in the doors. I cannot wait till toyota and subaru come out with the ft-86 or w.e it will be called. Because that will be the most beautiful car toyota will have released in a very long time. Something i would probably buy aswell.
It has already been released and is in production available for pre-order already. It is being sold as a Scion, and called the FR-S
Hopefully the interior isn't completely crap! I'd love that car, but theres so many concepts that its starting to get overwhelming. Overall the cars production is stated for early next year, so I'm hoping the driving experience rocks! I love high revving engines as well as anything yamaha tuned- they do a sweet job, and nice audio as well. I drove the TC v2 and truthfully I wasn't impressed too much. Its not really a drivers car, engine noise isn't that great, but the steering felt good and the car drove very crisp. This car had the TRD brakes, wheels, and exhaust. Its a good commuter car no doubt. I love the front and rear glass roof feature, lots of rear leg room and big trunk. Tiptronic also worked well, never did an upshift by itself (although I just barely hit redline during my city drive).
I'm a big fan of Toyota / Scion / Lexus products in general. The scions are stylish and a great car for the $. I see you guys mentioned the joint product between Subaru and Toyota and think that car in Subie form (with 300 hp) will be awesome.
I didn't say it was a driver's car. I said it was a drivers Daily Driver. The every day car for someone who already has a drivers car. I also test drove the full TRD equipped version but still went with base for the price. The stock exhaust has a throaty sound in the low RPM's until the 4 cylinders start to overpower the exhaust in noise. I agree though that the engine noise isn't pleasant over 4000 RPM, but then again, that's when the power comes out, so I have to bare with it. lol I'm pretty sure it'll sounds better when I get an air intake installed on it to let it breath properly.
I didn't say handling, I said steering. I haven't had the chance to take them both on the track(nor will I), although I have my suspicions about which would be better on a technical track with no high speeds. And if my (valid) opinion (since I drove both cars, and not yourself good friend ) means I should get out more, then I'd rather stay in. Everyone knows in the car world, paying more doesn't mean getting more. There's no justification to me spending 3-4 times the price to get 1.25 times the car.
great car. I have the 08, but have ridden in a tc2 a couple times. It definitely has quite a bit more pick up especially at the top end. For everyone with the original, if you want good handling, you have to spend a couple hundred and get new rear sway bar, the trd springs and strut bar (if you want). Those are the only suspension mods i've done and the car feels planted through any corner. There is practically no body roll at all and driving a stock tc to one with those mods is just a complete night and day difference. Best few hundred ever spent on my car. The best part, most of the mods you can't see so it's not like one of those ricer hondas the 16 year olds have on the street. And the drop done by the trd springs is so minimal that many can't even tell the difference. It closes up the wheel gap, but makes the handling SO much better.
