Hey everyone im new to detailing and i just bought a new 09 chevy silverado, and i was wondering how do i keep it as clean and shinny as the day that i bought it?? should i wax it, clay it, what need advice thanks.
Congrats on the new ride! Post up some pics! You will probably want to clay the paint, the either seal or wax it. Or both. Uh-oh, those two above steps will lead you to spending thousands of dollars on detailin supplies!

Well here's a little advice and something that will help prolong the life of your vehicle, wash it regularly and use the two bucket method. If you don't know what the two bucket method is it's literally two buckets with grit guards inside them. Once bucket is for soap the other is to rinse out your sponge/mitt ect..ect..your washing utensil. Clay is always recommended as well. Congrats on your new purchase and yes due share pictures :thumb:
these are not the best pics but since pics were demanded lol, before here they are..it pretty much just stock right now it has the lt2 package. Im thinking about going with a 2" level kit and kmc monsters with some 305/55/20. also going to go with 5 percent tint all around and much more. Just bought the truck last Saturday so im excited.

Allthough Im not a fan of the whole flat black rim look the 305/55/20s will look good witha 2" level kit. A good claying with a sealant or wax after will help keep it shining and be easier to clean. Use Nicas recomendation for the two bucket method for cleaning and stay away from touchless carwashes. Keep reading and learn how to remove swirls as your gonna get them eventually. nice truck man! im not much of a truck guy myself but my neighbor has an SS silverado and despite the fact that shes insane its a sick truck, i love black paint, once you get a good coat of wax on it (i reccomend one of the griots waxing kits). it will sparkle, nothing is quite as intimidating as a mirror black truck bearing down on you!
2 bucket method with a good maintenance soap. Megs Gold Class would be a good one and can be picked up over the counter. Stay away from Dawn its for your dishes not your truck. Also remember that once you clay the first time in preperatation for sealant or wax or both:applause2:, you won't need to clay again for awhile. If you wash regularly you probably won't clay but a few times a year. Oh and the Teflon system the dealer told you about is a scam. No sealant in the world is going to last 5 years. With the right products and methods that you can easily learn here, you can make the truck look BETTER than the day you drove it off the lot! Congrats on the new purchase (its an incredible looking truck) and be prepared to get addicted to keeping it clean and spending way more $$ on that process than you ever thought possible.
Ya this little beast is hard to keep clean i already washed it about 5 or 6 times since i bought it. What clay/wax do you guys recommend and also what is the griot wax kit?

Oh, the viscious cycle begins! :applause2: The guys here at DB are very helpful and willing to share their expertise. "Start out slow and fill a supply cabinet with enough products to keep a detail shop in business for a year" that's the rule most of us adhere to at DB. :crasy: Seriously, you can start out with over the counter products and go from there as your wants, skill level and yes bank account - increase. You will eventually end up purchasing products from some of the forum supporter / vendors. At that stage in your OCD detailing life, you wonder how you ever able to clean and protect your truck using the supermart stuff. Start out by viewing a few of the posts with write-ups and pictures documenting the work. You will soon be able to recognize the different products intended use and you will be able to draw your conclusions if a product is right for you and your needs. :thumb: Congrats on the new truck!
