Ok, ever since I joined this forum, all of less than a week ago I think, I've been "introduced" to exponentially more products than before. All these group buys, reviews, requests for opinions, etc. that I'm reading about, I'm like, "WTF is that? Do I need it? FFS, I don't care but I want it!" From what I can see, you all have some sort of Euro hookup/preference for products that are WAY too expensive for me to justify buying. Have I just not found out/found the thread showing who all on this forum are PRO detailers, or do details for people with more $$$ than God? Hmmm, it'd be nice if there were some sort of "marker" showing who details for income vs. who details for fun. Don't get me wrong, I love this forum. Heck I think I really should just try to stay away from it, but my OCD won't let me, hehe. :computer:
Welcome to the madness. You didn't read the fine print before signing up? It said you now owe your wallet and its contents to detailing supplies. Yea, it got me too. And yea, some sort of marker would be good. Say a label under the screen name or something? There are many members here that do this full time, such as myself. Good luck on your OCD, as we all need classes. But hell, the instructor has OCD as well.....
I KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOU FEEL! I spent close to 1k on supplies already. I'm sure others have spent way more than i have. I'm a poor college student LOL. And i mainly detail on the side. Hopefully this year i can be less generous and start charging more for the work. That way i can buy even more stuff. HAHA
Well I can understand the furstration when it comes to the GB, UK orders and bunch of goodies that are posted but to be honest that's why I've been seriously considering of not posting what other things I've been ordering. I'm very blessed to have the resources and most importantly a very understanding wife that prity much lets me order anything I need/want/desire lol...but at the same time I don't want people to feel it's a competition. I order becuase well I love detailing and most importantly I demand nothing but the best for my vehicles...it just so happens that I have a few friends/customers that are willing to pay for the products that I have for my personal vehicles on there vehicles and that's fine with me. By no means do I post the orders I place to make any one feel bad, I just post pictures just to share that's all....but perhaps I've been a bad influence :sorry:, good thing I wont be posting the other orders I have received lol. As for who's a pro and not, the way the forum is set up is that those that are pros like Jayplay for example that have steped up and payed to advertise on the forum will receive the appropriate tittle under neath there name. Other then that everyone else will use the default remarks that I made up. The reason I did is because if pro detailers want the tittle they can have it but will have to pay for it if they so choose. Other then that I wont be putting any kind of additional tittles on detailers that do this for a living, I think it's easy to spot who does it for a living and who does it on the weekends...well just my :2cents: on the matter though, if you guys disagree with me by all means let me know...I love feed back.
Don't be sorry Nica...I LOVED the post with all the pics that your wife took while opening all those boxes. I was grinnin from ear to ear IRL. I think maybe my thread title wasn't chosen carefully enough. A good part of the frustration is a result of my own doing of course. I think I just need to have more of the mindset of, "I'm happy for that person because they got the 000B3R wax they've been wanting!" instead of the, "OMG I MUST HAS MOAR AND BESTEST WACKS!!" mindset, LOL. Again, I  this forum. Sorry for any negative connotations in my previous post. I also think I'm just antsy because I have to wait until the end of the month/beginning of April before I get my Flex, LOL. You've obviously set up this forum the way you did for a REASON and it's WORKING! Heheh, I just need to take a :chillpill: on the product obsession methinks. OOOOOO, I have a suggestion for a new sub-forum...Detailer's Anonymous. I'll start, "Hello, my name is Gary and I'm a Detailaholic." : BTW Nica, how about changing frustrated to overwhelmed with a smilie?
i;m sure you all relize, and for quite sometime now, that this thing we call detailing is, oh yes, is an addiction, but one that i'd rather have than some other ones that can really ruin your day. you just need to pull back on the reings sometimes, use what you've been using if it's working and when you run out, then try something else that everyone has been raving about. if i learned anything about these forums and i've learned alot, no one will willing steer you wrong, if they say x product is the bomb then you can be sure it is.and vice versa. to the guys who have the resources to try all these expensive products i'm genuinly happy for them, it also is a good test bed for the rest of us unfortunates who can't afford it. i still enjoy seeing the results on their cars. just my 2 cents.:bla2:
:this thing is funny.. but i rather get addicted to this than other things.. that's just me of course.. i found myself buying and buying and doing and doing, and working and working, and every end of that detail, cleaning, washing, ..that drive for perfection in doing what we do here... well, i don't know what i'm talking about now and i lost my point.. but i love detailing.. hehe
Obsessive-compulsive disorder From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric anxiety disorder most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or "rituals") which attempt to neutralize the obsessions. The phrase "obsessive-compulsive" has worked its way into the wider English lexicon, and is often used in an offhand manner to describe someone who is meticulous or absorbed in a cause (see "anal retentive"). Such casual references should not be confused with obsessive-compulsive disorder; see clinomorphism. It is also important to distinguish OCD from other types of anxiety, including the routine tension and stress that appear throughout life. Although these signs are often present in OCD, a person who shows signs of infatuation or fixation with a subject/object, or displays traits such as perfectionism, does not necessarily have OCD, a specific and well-defined condition. To be diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, one must have either obsessions or compulsions alone, or obsessions and compulsions, according to the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria. The Quick Reference to the diagnostic criteria from DSM-IV-TR (2000) describes these obsessions and compulsions:[1] Obsessions are defined by: Recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked anxiety or distress. The thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems. The person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action. The person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind, and are not based in reality. Compulsions are defined by: Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly. The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts either are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent or are clearly excessive. In addition to these criteria, at some point during the course of the disorder, the sufferer must realize that his/her obsessions or compulsions are unreasonable or excessive. Moreover, the obsessions or compulsions must be time-consuming (taking up more than one hour per day), cause distress, or cause impairment in social, occupational, or school functioning.[1] OCD often causes feelings similar to those of depression. OK, Now who can deny the truth that we as a forum do not need outside assistance for the treatment of OCD? :meditation: :shead:  :waiting2:
I never thought I would spend a lot on a wax, but I did with the Glasur group buy. I know my high end wax collection is gonna grow more .
I have the same feelings at times about some of these cats rolling in the new products. I go on binges mainly. Every few months I'll open things up and stock up. I made a promise with myself to not buy anything else until detailing season starts back up. But, DD is making that hard!!!
I think Jake_B hit the spot. Although we may not all be pro detailers, more just weekend warriors, i think we all strive for perfection. Thats what a true detailer is. No cut corners, just plain hard work with dedication and appreciation for what we do for ourselves and our customers.
i love this place because I get to learn about new products. Like the other day, I saw a thread about dodo supernatural. I read up on it and now I hitting up that GB
I feel you're pain. Minutes after joining I spent $50 with Detailer's Domain, all because of this site. But welcome, and this will probably be an on going thing. So get used to it...
The beauty is the diversity of people bringing to attention the various forms of products and what works well, and some others not quite so well. All this at a push of a button and a click of the mouse. And, free of charge. What you do after that, thats up to you.
So, instead of feeding my infatuation with detailing, I changed and bled my brake fluid last night. I'm trying to convince my friends to let me polish their cars.
