I know there is flickr, imageshack, webhost, and a few others where you can store pics for no charge (obviously upgrade options). Anyone know any pro's and con's of one versus another?
Mine's free and easy, tyleh.com lol. I use it and it's just fine for me. I wrote it in like 5 minutes so it doesn't work perfectly yet.
Not sure if there are any pro's or con's on these service sites but I've been using Photobucket for a wile now and no complains here :thumb: Perhaps some pro's and con's would be features within the hosting sites, some sites allow you to edit your images..ect..ect..but it seems to be standard now just my :2cents: though
After this weekend I learned that I need a different hosting service simply because of the amount of pictures I have taken. Please let me know which service you decide to use.
What does that mean? I signed up for flickr just so I could post some pics on some forums but still looking for a final place. Flickr resizes pics (smaller file size, image size) which was a surprise. Does Photobucket resize?
I mean that I need to find a better hosting site that doesn't have limitations such as how much you can upload and the size of images/files. Plus I've noticed that the compression on Photobucket leaves me with more to be desired (yes Photobucket resizes). I have been looking at SmugMug, Flickr, Shutterfly, etc. I still have to go through all the details to find out which one works best for me. Ultimately, I'd like to upload my RAW's without having to worry about space limitations and mandatory resizing.
Let me know what you find out since I think we have similar goals. I am ok with paying a very modest amount per month without the resizing restrictions.
You can have it resize or not, but I set it to resize. Pro means unlimited bandwidth so unlimited photos For $30/year I think it's worth it to not have to worry about running out of bandwidth
No bandwidth issues with Webshots, with plenty of resizing options for conserving bandwidth on the forum posted in. Few examples here: Clay Results pictures from photos on webshots M3 pictures from photos on webshots Makita pictures from photos on webshots Cyclo pictures from photos on webshots
Ok so I did a little research and it seems Shutterfly is a pretty good option as it seems that there are no restrictions except that, from using it, you can only load jpeg files. Smugmug is actually a pretty nice service and looks very clean but it can cost a fair amount of cash per year. The good thing is that there really aren't any limitations that I'm worried about (you can upload RAW files, don't have to resize, etc.). I really wanted to upload my RAW's so I can access them anywhere. Anyway, we'll see how well Shutterfly works for me.
I checked and flickr actually does re-size by default but you can always see 4 versions: square, thumbnail, small, medium, large...well that is 5 versions. Medium is default you see unless you ask for another size to be shown.
i might upgrade to photobucket pro. starting to run out of space. or just make another account, but bigger pics would be nice, but it lets you choose the size for resizing
