Me thinks this is the case, no way a drug addict would pick through specific high detailing gear, at least you can say they did not get the weapon however I would have omitted that little fact and get that shotgun into a proper gun safe. Make the report to police a clue might have been left behind somewhere, sorry this happened to you.
yeah .. I was thinking about that all last night as I haven't touched anything down there yet .. but .. as I live and breathe, my luck may be changing .. I received a text this morning from a number I've never seen before (sent at 5am) saying that they know who broke into my garage and that they will contact me again shortly to "help" me .. regardless of who sent this or why, I now have proof via text to at least track down the person who texted me (not smart on their behalf unless they're going to help me) .. I think I'm going to wait out on the police because Bergen County is filled with corrupt ass, overpaid police officers (I should know since I have a master's degree in Criminal Justice, took the exam and am waiting for job openings that will never arise due to politics and the "who you know" games) that do nothing around here .. I thought of the whole camera angle but no one around me would have cameras and the nearest house to mine wouldn't even have a shot of my garage as it's hidden .. all of my neighbors, including myself, own businesses in and around the area so no one would have been home (I asked) .. it's just one of those situations where I could honestly do without the hassle of having people in my garage and my home right now .. I think I'm going to play this lead out and see if I can get a name .. if I get a name I'm going to pay a little visit to the person(s) and see if I can't get my things back .. I know most people have faith in law enforcement but the reason I went to school for it was due to my horrible encounters with anything and everything law enforcement related .. I've always felt that the police around here are power abusing assholes that seem to pick on the younger crowd and ABSOLUTELY have it out for me based on the cars I own, the money I make and probably the fact that some of my "cousins" are not quite on the right side of the law .. I will keep everyone updated as soon as I find out anything else but I honestly do appreciate all of the replies and the concern .. I grew up in Jersey City so we have a special way of handling things like this :gasp:
I hate to hear that happened to you OP. I would contact the police just in case. It's sad these days people are stealing high end detailing products, I have a strong feeling it's somebody you know. The reason i think it's someone you know is because, personally, I can't talk to a guy about good high quality detailing products without them wanting to know the price of each (knowing they have no intention of properly detailing their vehicle, when i offer my services they say my prices are too high), hence why i don't discuss detailing products with anyone outside of my clients and of course here at DB, and other detailing sites.
I work with BCPD and JCPD quite often, always very helpful. I am not familiar with you particular situation, but I do know policing in general is very political in NJ. If your interested in LE why bash the profession while your waiting to get hired? Go state or federal if you can't get hired locally. Albeit some of what your saying is partially true, this not the arena for Police bashing and your opinion could have been stated in a more refined manner and context. For what it's worth I grew up in Brooklyn,NY (not the nice part), also have a MA in CJ and also had my share of run ins with NYPD and family members arrested, but that has no negative bearing on how I perform my job. Rant over. Good luck with the street justice!
I would notify the police, chances are they left prints............but it sounds like it is someone you may know, or has access to the pictures and your information on FB like you said. Being robbed, burglarized is one of the most eye opening experiences, it shows you how venerable you are. Sorry they got your supplies, but the gun definitely needs to be secured. Not sure how it works where you live, but here in CA you are liable if your weapon is not secure if a crime is committed or someone is shot. as for Cops being Aholes....... sorry we all cannot be your best freind, mommy, and daddy. :thumb: But I agree, I have come across a few in my 20 years associated with law enforcement that really discredit the profession.
First off-I am glad to hear your Mom is doing better. When something like this happens, it sucks but frame it with but my Moms condition is getting brighter-that is what counts you can and will buy more Detailing Supplies you can't buy more Moms right? This makes no sense to me and I would strongly suggest you call the Police. This reaks of somethng horrible. Not saying you are not being truthful but there are alot of other garages in Bergen County that I would hit before yours if I was a theif inclined to rob people especially of detailing supplies. If you get the police involved you will catch this perp becasue it was not random. If you cant figure it out, the Police will in short order. Think about it who need all that specialized equipment. The local police know where to monitor the sales of these either on the net or on the street. And Lucky for you your car was not home that would have been much worse. Also, not for anything but you need to better secure your firearm-Not Kool-Illegal guns on the street are bad for everyone. I hope it at least was unloaded and had a trigger lock. I could understand if you were home and wanted quick acess but not if your not home. It should be under lock and key bro. Happy New Year and good luck in 2012.
thanks for the post .. just thought I would address this before I gave a little update lol .. when I was speaking about my shotgun I didn't realize how vague I was .. it's registered, legal AND locked up with the ammo in a separate location .. the think I was worried about was them taking it and easily finding ammo .. I keep in downstairs because we have the garage and a small section of the house next to it (basically my rec lounge) so I store the weapon down there away from the young family members that visit in a locked case .. the problem is, the case, if found, could easily be grabbed and smashed open if need be .. I'm looking into buying some sort of gun cabinet although even that wouldn't 100% prevent a gun theft .. now onto the update .. the last few days have had MANY ups and downs .. I spent a WHILE texting back and forth with the anonymous texting until I finally convinced the person to call me and speak about it real time .. I didn't realize HOW STUPID this person would be to not realize that I would recognize HER voice immediately .. once I heard her voice I knew right away that she was the girlfriend of my cousins BEST FRIEND .. now .. this is where it gets insane .. I detailed my cousins 04 KB Cobra a few months back and his friend just happened to tag along with him .. he never actually went into the garage but from where he was standing he could see "into" it and I had a decent amount of supplies outside of the garage for him to gauge what I was working with .. I had a bad feeling about that little prick from the get go but tried giving him the benefit of the doubt .. my only issue with this is that the girl friend said to be careful about .. MY OWN COUSIN .. so .. not only did my jaw drop but I was really confused at that point .. I spoke with this girl for about an hour and she was telling me about how her boyfriend was bragging about causing hell for some "spoiled white boy" and how he loved evening the playing field .. some crazy shit basically .. she said she wasn't down for that and was ending the relationship over this .. before she hung up she told me that they still had some of the things at HIS (her bf, soon to be ex) house but that they dumped shit out and threw a lot of things away just for spite (PISSES ME OFF SOO BADLY) .. right after I hung up with her I drove over to my cousins house with a fury and started banging on his door .. I sat down with him to give him the benefit of the doubt and to explain to me what happened and WHY .. he denied EVERYTHING for the longest time until I showed him the text messages and told him about the phone call .. finally he "cried" (looked fake to me) and said that his friend was talking shit about me since the detail about me being spoiled and how he hated me because his Father was laid off not too long ago and they were forced to cut back big time .. now, I understand the economy is bad but that's just a bullshit excuse from a jealous little prick lacking work ethic and determination .. anyways, I had to hold myself back from choking my own cousin as I started screaming at him for not telling this kid to **** off IMMEDIATELY just for talking about family that way .. then he said this little bastard had info on him and basically said he wanted him to tag along to "scare him by taking his supplies" .. new paragraph lol .. so my cousin continues to tell me the story and then says that he thought he would just give it all back to me and that he even made sure it happened on a day that I took my car to work (even crazier that he stalked my schedule like that) .. he said that once they got in, he started putting my waxes and bottles in a box they brought but his friend started going nuts and threw some things on the ground and against the wall .. he said once that happened he tried to grab him and to run out but he kept doing it so he left and the nut stayed in there for a good five minutes acting like a lowlife .. VERY long story short .. he apologized to me like no other and said he would give me the money to cover any and everything that was broken or taken .. I told him to stick his money up his ass, that I wanted him to come with me to the police to tell him the story and to name drop on this asshole .. it took almost two hours and a phone call to my AUNT to convince him to come with me .. we went to the police station, filed a complaint and they took his statement with the name of the kid and everything .. I told the police I wasn't pressing charges against my cousin because he went there thinking it was going to be a prank but that this kid flipped out and that I wanted something done .. now it's all engulfed in a cluster of police bs .. I would have just went to this kids house myself but .. there's no point getting MYSELF in trouble with the police over some detailing supplies .. I have to admit that I'm hurt even more than ever knowing that my own family screwed me over like that .. we talked a lot since on the phone and I told him that he's not allowed anywhere near my house until I feel I can even trust him half as much as I used to .. I'll tell you the biggest win of the whole thing .. I GOT MY FUZION BACK !! lmao .. apparently it's the ONLY thing the kid still had at his house when the cops went there and he gave it up .. now I'm just taking inventory to figure out what was stolen and what was broken and/or dumped out on the ground .. I'd like to thank EVERYONE for your support, concern and over well-wishes .. this is an amazing forum and I truly feel like you all do an amazing job not only making people feel comfortable but secure enough in themselves to share personal stories and to open up about that crazy thing we call life .. thank you again and I'm sure I'll have some nonsense to report back in time about this .. God bless you all :worship2: and sorry for such a LONG-WINDED story .. I didn't want to leave anyone feeling like they got ripped off after such drama LOL
Glad there is sort of a happy ending here, however start omitting some specific details on where you keep your stuff and what it is etc................... you will be better off (FYI).
very true and thank you lol things have been moved and I have a security guy coming here on Wednesday to alarm the garage better and to have a camera installed inside of the garage and near the entrance :applause: .. I appreciate the concern though .. just wanted to clarify with a few of the other members that I didn't leave a loaded weapon of any sorts just laying around LOL thanks again
A UNloaded weapon is useless when needed, a properly stored LOADED weapon is your "Right to bear arms" and be utilized when it "Hits the fan" as a police officer I am sure Kilo6 can elaborate as someone bent to due harm will sometimes not even stop when you draw down on them..................but will be stopped if they are deceased............(Of course only if you are in imminent danger on your own property defending yourself).
Wow , sorry to hear about the bad news. did not see your post until now and I feel so bad for you. this coming from a family member has to be the worst feeling in the world. good to hear you got at least one item back and the ring leader will meet their fate. here is hoping karma takes care of the rest ( as it always does )
Op i definitely feel your pain. The day before i returned from deployment my place was robbed. This was 3 years ago. I use to collect Air Jordan sneakers back then. Out of the thing the robbers could have taken my sneakers were the only things that were taken. Thousands of dollars worth were gone. Of filing a claim on sneakers didnt work because some the sneaker i had for years. Since then security is real tight at my house.
That, my friend, is the quote of the year. You're awesome. To the OP, glad you got things sorted out as best you can.
was it recent, because a story has been on the news of a young man who had 10 000 + dollars of sneakers and matching ball caps stolen Are you the guy?
all you have to do is look at the story of the young Oklahoma woman who exercised her rights to do so, and killed one intruder and the other retreated. you have what is called the castle doctrine, in California (Cal. Penal Code ยงยง 197, 198, 198.5) its been dumbed down but in all reality you take what ever steps are necessary to protect your life if you feel it is being threatened. Garage is no exception, where the law gets grey is outside the confines of your home unless you have a LTC license to carry, but still you need to have the same "I felt my life was in danger". In california if you have the ability to retreat then they expect you to do so, if they advance then shoot till the threat ceases. I have drawn down on quite a few folks LOL. And sometimes it still does not take control of the situation, many people are either desensitized to firearms, law enforcement or are so hyped on Meth, PCP, Coke, crack Special K, you name it and could care less until the bean bags, tazers and dogs start flying, even then they are combative all the way to the ER. probably off the topic, but it has to do with what Bob said, producing a fire arm when your life is in danger, its not just buy a gun, and pull it out when you need it. sorry for the rambling.........
I definitely know about the "escalation of force" i there are any military folks in here that have deployed tyey know what im talking about.
amazing what people will steal....... growing up we had someone break into our house and steal all of my moms clothes and some expensive model trains my father collects......... why? LOL
