first time posting on the forum!! today i had a Black BMW that i polished out and sealed and i noticed that after i was done removing the wax it decided to "haze" up (like breathing hot air on glass) and it wipes away crystal clear then about a min later it would come back :shead: i have had this happen once be for on another black BMW but not on any of the other black cars i have done. any input would be awesome! i used pc xp, chemical guys polish and butter wax here are some pics after i had wiped the haze off witch later returned :devil:
Could it have anything to do with the dew point outside, or the humidity? Or is it dry as a bone out there?
I was thinking the same but it a dry heat in my neck of the woods it was also doing it during the day around 5pm with the temp outside being about 75F. i did notice at night that it came back a lot faster
That happens to me all the time. It could be the temp falling below the dew point... that ususally happens to me after I'm done washing the car on a hot day towards sundown...
Not uncommon for this to occur. Although I am not too familiar with the products you used, its likely not their "fault". There's only so much product that will sit atop the surface. Plus, any liquids that actually penetrate the paint aren't permanent. I recommend you wipe the paint with purified water. If you don't have any, you can use whatever water you've got. Tap, soft, drinking, distilled, reverse osmosis, de-ionized... whatever! :headbang: Simply soak your softest microfiber in it, and wring it to the point that it's drenched, but not dripping all over. Lay it on the paint, and wipe s-l-o-w-l-y to remove any top oils or unsettled remnants of glaze, resin, wax, or polymer. Don't get too ahead of yourself- you don't want the water evaporating away before you wipe it up with a second, super soft microfiber. Otherwise, the loosened and floating-in-the-water goop will set back down on the paint. Wipe s-l-o-w-l-y this time, too. Wiping the paint in this manner also helps to level the build-up of oils, resins, polymers, silicones, or waxes, so that there's an even coat, and thus sheen, with no dark clouds, streaks, or hazing present. We often forget that all these chemicals we wipe on top of the paint in hopes of making it look pretty, or for protection, are made up of ingredients that "oxidize" (dry out) or evaporate at different rates. Once a resin or solvent, evaporates, what happens to the remaining surface goop? It's probably moving around. :graduation: Factor in the ever-changing temperatures of the paint, primer, and substrate (metal, plastic, or composite material), and the fact that they reshape with temperature shifts... and you can better understand why the "refogging" or "restreaking" can occur. You think you've got problems with your paint? Ha!:giggle: On several occasions in the 1980's (..."Before YOU were born, kiddo..."), I'd work on single stage paints throughout the day, only to see the HAND GLAZE and other oily concoctions s-q-u-e-e-z-e back OUT of the paint at dusk. "WHAT THE....!?" :yikes: As the paint swelled due to heat generated by machine buffing, or the sun, and because the solvents used in the compounds, polishes, and glazes were able to more easily penetrate (or swell) the softer paints of the time, too much liquid entered the top coat. It had nowhere to go and wasn't going to evaporate, so it pushed out! Talk about HAZE! It was so bad that I could see it on the rag as I wiped it away. Notorious for this dynamic was that DANG green or maroon VOLVO paint! What was IN that stuff? :shead: This also happened on several Jaguars, and even a Mercury Capri (a re-badged Mustang). All featured the typical single-stage paints of the day. Had this happen on leather, too. It was a Jag with REALLY dry leather, and I got stuck detailing it in the California sun. :devil: The conditioner evaporated all right, and made for the WORST set of windows I had to REDO REDO REDO REDO that summer. :waiting2:
wow! thanks for taking the time to write all that out:thumb: I tried quick spay detail with no results but i didnt try a damp microfiber. i will have to give that a shot. thanks again
