Just a quick one, was wondering how many guys use gloves whilst detailing and if so what kind ? I often find it difficult to use them continously with my hands getting really sweaty but they definately do help alot in keeping your hands protected from the various chemicals you are exposed to throughout a detail. I have seen guys like Fminus and Phil wearing purple or blue latex gloves, are these worn throughout the detail or only for certain tasks ? I am keen on hearing everyone's personal preferences in this regards :thumb:
I wear the Blue nitriles during the entire process as we use to many chemicals .Which over time can possibly cause problems. I agree that your hands tend to get sweaty . I usually switch pairs sometimes twice during a detail to give my hands a break and to breathe
I also use the Blue Nitriles. My details are short so I only use one pair but after the detail I find that the glove is covered in a yellowish stain. I'm guessing it carnauba... I'm glad I wear it to prevent future skin problems. Before I used gloves, my hands would usually get very dry.
I always wear gloves when I use heavy chemicals, like Megs Wheel Brightener and others...better be safe then sorry.
+1 on nitrile gloves. I used to wear plain latex and it would give me these weird rashes, little tiny blisters on my palms. After switching to nitrile gloves I haven't had any problems. If your hands get sweaty I suggest you get powderless gloves.
I have a new kind of glove I'm trying out. They're like a spandex material but the fingers are dipped in nitrile as well as the palm. They should be a litle more breathable.
i wear black nitriles for fun i do like to wear them doing most of the detailing stuff because it's not exactly the most pleasant thing to have a wax or sealant layer on your hands
I wear the blue nitrile ( powderless) for washing the car and applying tire dressing. Keeps my hands from drying out. I don't wear mine for interior work.
I wear the nitrile gloves as well. I've never had my hands sweat in mine. I prefer getting a size that fits as opposed to the "one size for all" gloves. I wear mine from the beginning of the detail until I finish.
i wear blue or black nitrile gloves throughout the whole process except when im polishing. why? just cause....why not?
I wear nitrile's too. I ran out recently and I feel weird not wearing gloves. I would wear them for everything. I hate dirt in my fingernails
I wear latex gloves when I apply the tire dressing. I hate getting all that black stuff under my fingernails. I've tried wearing them while polishing, but my hands got too hot and sweaty, which makes it too uncomfortable, plus I don't really get any polish on my hands anyway.
kcprofessional.com These are the ones I have that I'm gonna start trying out. The black part of the gloves is a somewhat breathable material and the purple is nitrile. Obviously reusable. They run in packs of 12 for like 50 bucks, but of course I get them for free.:
Seems nitrile is the way to go. Anyone have some links to popular brands as I have yet to see any disposable type nitrile gloves locally? Also whats the difference between latex and nitrile gloves ?
Latex Pros- more sensitive, cheaper Cons- allergic reactions, not very durable Nitrile Pros- more puncture resistant Cons- not as sensitive, about twice as expensive
I wear dish washing gloves while washing cars because they go so far up my wrists that when I drunk my mitt in the bucket, water does not get in the gloves. For any other type of chemical use I use blue nitrile gloves.
I always wear gloves when washing, applying/removing selants, polishes and interior...well during the whole detail, but I use maybee 6 gloves.
Hope you aren't planning to wear these while washing. These get wet and your hands get soaked because of the spandex type material. We have these at work and the back of your hands will get nasty from whatever comes in contact with the gloves. Also the Nitrile covering is thicker than regular Nitrile gloves so you lose a good deal of dextrity with these. Oh and as a side note if you wear these when its cold out your hands will absolutely freeze! These are great for changing your tire but not real suitable for detailing.
