I got an idea for a thread while reading overtimedetailer's thread about people cancelling appointments. Does anyone have any good stories that people cancelled an appointment? Crazy, weird, whatever excuses (not necessarily made-up) that people gave you and had to cancel an appointment. I prepped a local Subaru forum member's legacy not too long ago. He dropped the car off while him and his wife went out to buy a brand new 2011 Subaru Outback. While finishing the car, I called and told him it would be done soon. Him, his wife, and kids came over in their new Outback (pretty black, but ugly car) and he picked up the car. I talked him into possibly setting up an appointment to get the Outback prepped for the winter as well. He said he would think about it and called me later in the week. It was set up, he was gonna drop the car off Sunday! YAY! He called me the Saturday before...... Heres how it kinda went. Me: Hello? Him: Hey Seth, how are you? Me: Good, How about yourself? Him: Things... have been better. Me: Oh really, whats wrong? Him: Well, I wont be able to bring the car over tomorrow Me: Oh ok... Him: Yeah..... the wife totaled it... Me: :gasp: Pretty much the rest of the story is, His wife was driving with their 8 year old son. Was driving on a very curvy road (ive been on the road several times cuz my friend lives out there, and trust me, its a car killer if you arent careful) and she was on a very sharp left. Her front tire went off the road a little to a very short-but-steep drop. It pretty much grabbed the wheel from her hands and flipped the car into a shallow creek. I was absolutely horrified to say the least. They were both banged up and bruised a little, but they were fine. The SRS airbags saved the kids life because his side of the car was the first to hit the ground when it flipped. He hadnt even made the first payment on the car, and it was completely totaled. On a light-hearted note, he said, "I dont think you can polish this one to look good again" LOL! He said hes gonna buy another one (thanks to gap insurance) and bring it to me. Thats about the craziest thing anyone has ever cancelled an appointment for... and for good reason Anyone else?
I had a girl tell me that she has to postpone it because she had to get some "radiant" injection done in her lip so she does not look fat when she smiled.......so she had to push it out till November.
The "worst" one I've had wasn't really a cancellation, but more of an excuse not to schedule an appointment. This is a client who's cars I have been taking care of for almost 2 years now. He has always been getting a Winter and Summer prep as well as regular ashes and updates for his 3 cars. I reminded him about winter coming up soon and that he should schedule a date in back in September. He never gave me a date, and whenever I would remind him, he was always responding with something like "I just got back from my trip, I'm under affect of jet lag and don't have the mind to schedule that right now." No that my season has been booked, completed and the shop is closed for winter storage, he can't get a date and has to wait until Spring if he chooses to get it done. Else, the only other reason has been "I'm in my exam season and don't have time"
Just on Wednesday I had a Gti cancel and for good reason as a 18 wheeler fuel tanker flipped and lost its fuel on the highway, he was stuck for hours. On second note, he seen the TIV from Storm Chasers headed towards Houston, an hour later we had a tornado 35 miles north of here.
had a client cancel before the big import alliance meet this year because he was out street tuning / data logging his car and got pulled over 140 in a 55 and a reckless driving ticket... when the trooper came up to the car and asked him what he was doing the passenger had the laptop open in his lap and they had the wire for the wideband o2 sensor taped to the side of the car hanging out the window....needless to say the trooper figured out what they where doing pretty quick
