Choosing a Nano Sealant...

I ordered a bottle of Eraser as well. After the Compound and Polish stage I plan to back the car out of the garage and do a CG Citrus Wash + Gloss foam down to remove compound dust and oils followed by a Eraser wipe down.

I washed the car with a good dilution of the CG wash today and blow dried the car. Parked it in the garage for the night. Plan to start the process in the morning. Hoping to finish it all by tomorrow night.

 

Applied it last night. I have to say, it was easy as cake. No high spots, and it was actually fun. I lightly wiped down each panel roughly 1min after application and then moved on to the next panel. Had to rinse the car down today and the water sheeted off like crazy. Should have some pics and such up on here in a few days.

Pencil Hardness is one of many tests that are done to evaluate a coating's performance. Other tests are abrasion, reverse impact resistance, direct impact resistance, cross-hatch adhesion, oxidation, gloss retention, UV resistance, yellowing, blistering, drying times, chemical/solvent resistance (using both the rubbing and spot/time tests), salt spray resistance, humidity resistance, acid and caustic resistance

Most coatings are formulated for specific types of finishes, various conditions or different substrates. So use the pencil hardness test as one criterion for selection.
But do not judge any coating by coating thickness or pencil hardness alone, as there are many other significant characteristics to consider. Be cognizant that whatever the hardness rating it only offers scratch resistance, which only helps to minimize the appearance of light scratches

Opti-Coat will provide a 2-4 µ (microns) film and a hardness of 9H (Pencil Hardness) when fully cross-linked (it takes 90 days to fully cross-link) and provides a semi-permanent coating

My question then, is what is the ‘hardness’ of Hard Body?

 

I just tried opti-coat on my car but only did the passenger side. I wanted to compare the way it looked to what was on the drivers side.

It rained a few days later but just enough so the roads were wet on my way in to work so it got dirty water kicked up on it pretty bad. I went out this morning and was going to go over it with groits waterless wash so I could compare the appearance in the sun today. I went over the passenger side (the one with opti-coat), it wasn't that dirty so I didn't feel bad using the waterless wash and then moved to the drivers side and it was too dirty for me to use the waterless wash. Definitely a good sign for the opti-coat.

I also used it on my pickup last year about this time when I moved it from the garage. It sits in the sun all day, every day and only has been washed about 3 times in the year. When it rains the water washes the sides off enough that it looks pretty good.
