hey guys, Both the cameras in the family are now broken. One works on and off, while the other is completely toast. My mom and dad left it up to me to find a new camera. They said keep it reasonable and no DSLRs. I don't want to get into DSLRs yet anyways. But I have two in mind. The Panasonic Lumix TZ5, and the Canon Powershot SX110 IS. Both have very similar specs but the price tag on one is cheaper. I'm leaning towards the Canon as my uncle has one and it's lasted forever. Pretty much lasted so long he bought a new one because the technology became outdated. Those were just taken off of Blacks Photo. Anyways, the Powershot to me seems like a way better deal. I can get it at cost in Canada and the Powershot ends up a little more expensive then the Lumix. I like the fact that the powershot has so many different modes including an easy mode for my mom:applause2:. I had a TZ5. Liked it alot. The Intelligent Auto mode is pretty nice. The screen is just plain awesome. I upgraded. Sold the camera to my partner at work. He loves it. Cant really comment on the Canon camera. I've read alot of good reviews on that camera.
Even though my dad has a 40D, he's crazy about his Lumix. But I'd go for the Canon, that's just my bag.
I like the Canons. I have a G9 (replaced by the G10) and use it far more than my DSLR primarily because it is easier to carry. Plus with a couple of accessories from Lensmateonline it is really flexible.
My friend has the G9 as well. She loves it, it takes good pictures as well. The G10 looks awesome, but it's to much camera for my parents and I. Thanks for your input though. I really like the Canon as well. The Lumix is also nice, but less functions. I also wouldn't mind somewhat of a larger sized compact camera. To me it would feel a little more solid on a tripod than a slimmer camera like the Lumix. I think it was your ad on here that made me look into the TZ5. Although I like the TZ5 having the extra modes on the Canon is going to be very useful. I've never owned a Panasonic so I don't know how long they last but my uncles Canon Powershot S30 is about 6 or 7 years old I believe. It still works fine, just there is better technology out there. I have also read many excellent reviews.
