Yeah I'd be bummed too if I owned a GTO....sike! That does suck, but you must break down to rebuild. While it's out of commission, try getting that grime off the front bumper! J/K, at a reasonable price a GTO is my dream car. Being in college with money sucks! Good luck though.
Oil consumption huh..What was causing that? And what kind of oil do you run in the car? Before I got married, my old roomate had an old 70's GTO..spent alot of bucks on the motors and blew 2 of them in 1 year. He was greedy and was running too high of compression for what the motor could handle. I told him not to put those pistons in the car, he didn't listen.
LS2's are known to consume oil especially when you drive them hard. It's also suspected that when my car overheated due to a radiator failure that trouble started then. Needless to say i'll be keeping an eye on my oil levels more diligently from now on.
I hope you can get a 'fix' and start using the GTO again. Good to see you posting again, thanks for the update...
Yes, I do. From my brother to my car club. I've managed to have a great bunch of people in my corner. I'm VERY thankful for that.
:buffer:i think it really means i have the detailing sickness when i see the pics of the motor getting pulled out and my first thought being. OOH! what a great chance to polish the whole engine up! i bet i could get down in the engine bay and to the tranny tunnel too.... i have a problem... but I'm 100% okay with it! :buffer:
Oddly enough I thought the same thing. Sadly it's winter here and I don't have a garage to store the car in. At the moment it's sitting on a trailer under a cover in my brother's backyard. I'm picking up my new clutch tomorrow. I'm also ordering new connecting rods and pistons tomorrow. The crank will be back from the machinist next week. When it comes in I'll discuss cam choices with my builder.
Just a thought, have you ever considered using Blackstone laboratories every two oil changes or so to monitor what's going on in your engine?
Amsoil offers the same service. It's either that or an Accusump pump that holds and additional 2 quarts of oil.
Are you doing track events, or drag racing, or something along those lines? Admittedly I never see any GTOs at the autocrosses or at track events, but tons of Corvettes. I don't remember ever seeing one blow up. Anyway, good luck getting it back going.
