Yeah, APR has been around alot longer. They are a Factory tune for alot of Audi/VW dealers. Im just going to go with APR.
Ok, here is an update, a few of you peeps know what happened. So I get the tune installed by a shop up near Sac, everything is going great until about a week and 70 miles later the "Check maintenance soon" light comes on the MFD, and car immediately dies. Thank god I was by myself and not on the freeway, I was 20 yards from my house. The car deadsticked, no power nothing. Rolled to a stop, waited 20 minutes and was able to get it back into my driveway. Checked the battery, alt. its charging fine and Im getting electrical power. Take it to the dealer, they pull codes for Cam positioning sensor, throttle positioning sensor and fuel rail pressure too high. They clear it, drive it, it dies, throws those codes again plus an ECM fault code, the headlights now dont work and the car shuts off, they begin swapping out all the sensors, gas pedal, fuse box, ECM power supply etc. Rule out everything, we then pull the ECM, there is fucking water in there. 3 days prior to it dying it rained, I washed the car as normal. APPARENTLY the morons at the shop I took it too did not seal up the ECM correctly. They are denying that it could never happen, and basically are saying they are perfect that they "install hundreds of APR tunes a month and that they do not make mistakes" and they keep blaming the car, blaming the ECM as well of just short of calling me a liar. They even said the dealership did not properly diagnose the issue, even though they spent probably 10 hours and gutted a brand new VW CC in the process to swap parts, They claim I should have let them try to diagnose it and fix it; you think I want them touching my car at this point. Just so you know im 2.5 hours south of this shop, my car is not running and that they kept saying it was the cam positioning sensor, and even to this day even though there is stil physically water in the ECM and APR is involved, they still have the balls to say its the cam positioning sensor. And that its not the ECM. WTF is wrong with these people, I even sent them pictures of the ECM. There is very little to any silicone where the ECM case mates, and when we pulled it apart there was no resistance from the silicone, it didn't take any effort to pry it open. It looks like they used RTV IMO, not silicone. Not to mention I watched them R&I the ECM, they did not remove the rain tray, they lifted it up and jammed it in there. APR has been really great to this point, waiting to get a verdict from them, as I sent them the ECM. I bet this shop tries to dispute APR; which just short of blaming Jesus Christ himself, they have blamed everyone else for their negligence. SO at this point I had the dealer install a new ECM on my dime today, no codes, no faults and the car is running flawlessly. Cannot wait to hear them say its the Cam positioning sensor still, and that they need to verify the issues personally. I know alot of you guys have VWs, or know people that do....... I wont name the shop publicly since I will probably be suing them and filing a complaint with the BAR/ DMV. Just thought I would give an update and vent out a bit.
Yeah, they were not happy when I told them, they said they have strict protocols on R&I of the ECM to avoid this............. someone failed. Not sure what kind of resolution Ill get, but I have no issues with taking them to court, and filing a claim with the BAR. Which is on a balls out witch hunt right now for revenues and is penalizing shops left and right for silly things. FYI, my issue is NOT with APR, and I am not bashing APR corporate or the product, in fact ill still have them probably tune my car. Its with the shop that fucked up I have the issues with. Just to make that clear.
So let me get this straight. Tuner removes ECU and flashes car. One week later car dies on road. Dealer finds water in ECU due to bad seal. Tuner denies any responsibility and blames cam positioning sensor. Yea, makes sense. In all honesty I can imagine how frustrating this is and I hope APR takes care of you somehow. I really don't know why a shop would open up a ECU and not seal it properly, especially with the strict instructions APR provides. Just a nightmare waiting to happen.
Exactly, on one of my other forums, a guy who does APR tunes saw the pics of my ECM and said there was NO silicone or sealant he could see other then the factory sealant. And if you ever pop an ECM its SUPER hard to just pry apart, this one just popped open like a shoe box.
