Wormley, I think you need to settle your disagreement via PM, or ask Jon for his phone number, and settle whatever issue you feel you have in a more private setting. Granted I'm only 26 years old, but I've been mediating peoples disagreements and arguments for a living for several years now, and I think it was unwise to call Jon out the way you did.

If I understand it correctly, you blew your top because you felt that Jon should have given you credit for a quote that originated from the now deceased John Wooden. In reality, its evident that you have more issues against Jon than just this one.

If you take a step back from your keyboard you should be able to see why it makes no sense for him to give you credit for this quote because you didn't make it up. Now I'm not saying that Jon didn't get the idea to use this specific quote as a result of seeing you use it on other posts, but weather he did or not, does not mean it merits him giving you any credit for it.

I'm in no way trying to attack you, nor am I saying that your concerns are unwarranted, but I do feel that you need to choose your words more carefully. Its my understanding that this forum is a place for us to enjoy, interact, and share our knowledge that pertains to detailing with others. It is not a place to have full blown out fights and arguments, or to insult others. The reason we have so much pain in the world is because people haven't learned to stop sweating the small stuff. If Jon's comments pissed you off so much, I'd hate to see how you are when someone really wrongs you. Trust me, it is better to ignore the little things and try and live your own life to its fullest, instead of trying to force your will upon others.

Had Jon ripped off some of YOUR content, or material, then I would side with you on this topic, but being that he didn't, and that he also cited the originator of the quote in question, I see no reason for there to be any discord.

Posting comments like those you have was wrong. You almost sound like a politician. As if voicing your opinions to the masses, and trying to convince others of your views would make you right, even if those views were flat out wrong. I'm not getting my panties in a bunch over it, we all make mistakes and say things we probably shouldn't when we are angered, but now that we've all had time to cool our hot heads for a moment we should end this here.

Call Jon and hash it out with him, I nor the other members need to, or want to see this stuff go on here on DB. And if any do, and they get joy out of this type of behavior, then those members don't belong here (IMHO.) There is nothing BLISSful of condoning this type of behavior. Lets all remember that this is a discussion forum, and discussions along with constructive criticism are welcome. But lets limit the negative, spiteful and mean comments. Remember, If you wouldn't want someone to say it to your loved one or family member, then its probably not something you yourself should say to someone else.

All I'm saying is there is a time, a place, and many reasons to put the hurt on someone, this just doesn't qualify as one of them. Save your energy. And please don't be insulted by this post, that would just mean you missed the message I was trying to convey via the typed word. If you have anything you feel you need to speak to me about, don't hesitate to PM me. I will provide you with my phone number and we can talk it out, heck we can even wait till the evening or weekend and take advantage of free night and weekends from our service providers. :giggle: Don't worry all is good.:itsok:

By the way guys, I don't wear panties! It was just a verbal expression. Next thing you know you'll all be calling me Marv Albert and accusing me of trying to bite you all. LOL. :thumb:

The best thing we can all take from this is that sometimes we need to learn to bite our tongues. Trust me when I say that I probably do it more so than most of you will ever have to.

[Yes me. You know, the person you stole it from

Actually I could care less. Your long drawn out post may attrack some, but being a profesional in this field for nearly 30 years I can see thru all the garbage you put out
You have been banned from Autopia, Autogeek and recentally TruthInDetailing for stealing information or trying to sale that lame book you have. What it takes you 17 paragraphs to state, I can give a better response in 3 sentences. I suppose you think these ridicolously long threads you start make you look intelligent. Ppl get hoodwinked thinking you know what your talkinhg about, when in truth you don't have enough knowledge in this field to carry my wash bucket

You are a thief. All the profesionals know this. You have been had by Mike Phillips, Todd Helme, David Fermarni and myself just to name a few

Why? I’ve come to some conclusions.
    1. They have some form of hidden agenda for their negative comments or criticism
    2. Their ego gets the better of them as you seem to be a threat to their perceived expertise, or its just plain jealousy
    3. They can’t think of anything intelligent to say in response to your material so they have to rip you apart
    4. They have no tactful way of pointing out an error you’ve made. This is either due to limited vocabulary or intelligence.
    5. It’s easier to point out someone else’s faults than it is to look at and admit to your own.
    6. Pointing out mistakes and /or constructive criticism is valuable as both the writer and reader can learn from it
    7. Unfortunately, there are those who’d rather look for and point out a mistake than to take the context of the material and use it.
    8. We can’t stop or avoid those people, but we don’t have to acknowledge them either; as some people seem to have nothing better to do (the devil makes work for idle hands).

An ‘interesting’ response, which seems to have complied with at least 50% of the above, and I find it somewhat ironic for someone to have replied to this post in this manner.

[What it takes you 17 paragraphs to state, I can give a better response in 3 sentences.] Philbert_Wormley

As I’ve stated before “As always, any thoughts and / or constructive comments are more than welcome. It’s always good to get feedback on what works for future reference, and then we all learn".

Jon, I am actually curious why you started the topic.

The first section goes through why people post negative comments and then later you go into a writer's remorse about finding mistakes in others and issues like admitting mistakes,

    Then you say:

Defending yourself in these matters can often be a tricky no-win situation. You don’t want to present yourself in bad light with your readers.

What are you really trying to say? From your last comment on character, I thought admitting mistakes was the best for your character which is what really counts per the above. The first comment seems to imply one should not admit mistakes so as not to "present you in bad light with your readers".

I agree with you here Dad, people who do not know exactly what is going on should not comment, they just look that much more foolish. Actually Philbert has a legitiment gripe, but he needs to included a few others that provide overly long posts to try and baffle you with bullshit to seem they know what they are talking about also.

If you read my post I never said that Philbert's concerns weren't legitimate, I just feel that this issue should have been handled privately between the two persons involved. I know I went on a rant, but I get tired of seeing these types of posts come up from time to time. There is no need to air our dirty laundry out in public. If you guys have any issues with what I've posted shoot me a PM and I'll try to better explain myself, and hear out any complains, till then I think we should stop trying to feed fuel to this fire. And I ain't trying to pick a fight either, so don't misconstrue this.

Lol, I tried but this sort of BS pisses me off. It takes away from the friendly environment I've come to admire and appreciate here at DB. We all contribute to this community and I think its great, but these types of threads only make this community look bad, and don't accomplish anything aside from getting people pissed off at each other and others banned. Hopefully the Mods will come in here and clean it up. I apologize if my long post offended some of you, or strained your eyes from all the syllables in that thing.

On the other hand it should be known publicly if someone is a cancer to ones industry. If someone is stealing people's articles or taking their quotes and using it as their own then by all means it should be posted publicly. This is a lot more than just dirty laundry. That is why I said it is best to comment on something when you know all the facts.

I would agree with you that yes dirty laundry should be handled through pm but this is well beyond that.

It's getting old reading these types of threads. I feel that once a certain detailer, or any profession for that matter, hits a glass ceiling in terms of service quality, the rest is just trashing and shit talking. While I know that most knowledge is collective and progressive, plagiarism also isn't right. I don't know the real story, and quite frankly I'm starting not to care. These arguments are becoming really trite and for some reason I continue to waste my time on them.

You are right there. No one should pass some one else work as their own. I do agree with you and Wormley there, but the quote in question belongs to no member of this forum. If you guys can cite work that you feel was misused, then by all means post it. I just think this thing went south from the get go. If this thread can stay constructive and respectful, then it's all good, but if not then there is no need for it.

Just because it isn't a member here doesn't make it right at all. I agree that if it stays civil people will learn something about certain individuals, but I feel the reason for Philbert's rant was to catch your attention and open your eyes. Look at how people are reacting to his post but on the other hand the message caught your eye and you got the jest of what he was saying. That is probably his whole point of the way he posted.

I had every hope that this thread would, at some point, reverse it's downward spiral and head north to a point where we could agree to disagree. After four pages that seems unlikely. Too bad that any attempts to turn this around have been met with nothing but attacks. Disheartening in the least.

Moderators, Please close this thread as it's purpose has been served.

Obviously there is some support for Wormsley and his accusations. Then would someone please post some examples of the garbage that he says Jon is posting? So far there are four pages of bantering but nothing has been posted to prove his point. If you guys are consumed by hanging this guy in an open forum , thats up to you. But either post up, or shut up. Its your choice.

[Jon, I am actually curious why you started the topic.

A: I received an e-mail from a writer asking about this subject and answered as to why I thought people engage in this behaviour. As I’ve I also see this on various forums and my thought was that this is often due to either brand or contributor loyalty, to be thought of as part of a clique .

I posted in the hope of receiving other people’s opinions and feedback. As I’ve already stated I was somewhat surprised at the reaction, even though it seemed to reinforce the reasons I gave.

[Then you say: Defending yourself in these matters can often be a tricky no-win situation. You don’t want to present yourself in bad light with your readers.

A: Defending yourself in these matters can often be a tricky no-win situation. You don’t want to present yourself in bad light with your readers { as } stooping to someone else’s level rarely gets you anywhere, other than giving them credibility. This may have been a better way of expressing it.

I contribute to these forums to share both the knowledge and experience gained from more than five decades of semi-professional detailing, not to cause controversy or to incite anger. As this has become the end result of this post I apologise and would reiterate this was never my intention

Here is a positive spin. Go to the CP view, under Edit Options, and change how many threads you want on a page. I set at max (40) so I still see all threads on one page.

It just did not seem to jive about character vs reputation comment or maybe you were not making a preference. That is, not willing to admit a mistake because it could give an accuser credibility seems more about protecting the reputation.
