A new detailing business with NO "buffer"

Part of my job is to get new business accounts. My friend told me he just leased out some space to a new "detailing" business. I was very excited to do this business call.
I walk in to introduce myself and to my surprise the owner was a women. Pretty sexist of me to think it would be a man. :giggle: :shrug: After talking with her and realizing she already opened her business account with another bank.... plus she was very happy with that bank. I told her I enjoyed detailing my car. I asked her to tell me what they do. She explains she had some contact at a few dealerships so she now has contracts to detail all their cars. I replied that is great. So do you use a rotary, flex or a PC.... she was dead silent... kinda gave me a blank look. She says... are you asking about a buffer. I said.... yes what kind of buffer do you us? She became very excited and started telling me about at wonderful "special" products that she could apply to the clear coat that would last 5 years. She explained that she really could not disclose what the "special" product was. I somehow refrained from LOL and said, but what do you do to correct the swirls before you apply this "special" product. Again I got a blank look. She then explained all that is ever needed for a cars clear coat is this "special" product. At this point I am having trouble keeping a straight face. She informs me that a cars clear coat is as thin as the wrapper on a cigarette pack. I reply... I think I have heard somewhere that a clear coat is pretty thin. Again... trying to keep a straight face. :giggle: Then she keeps telling me how this "special" product could be used on the paint, chrome, bumper, rims and tires. It gets worse... I said do you only do new cars that jsut get delivered off the truck... where people have not had a chance to give the car swirls. She replys ohhhhh no we will do new or used cars. Then I just had to asked... So what type of clay do you use? Again... total blank look. I said do you use a clay bar to pull particles out of the clear coat. She said ooohhh no you don't need to do that with this product. :rollinglaugh: I said well it sounds like you have everything covered. Good luck with your new business adventure! Oooohhh she had 2 guys "detailing" cars... I think all toghether...they had 10 teeth between the two of them. :rollinglaugh:

perhaps whe learned some tricks from that guy on expervillage.com, where he uses AA tire foa on a dash with an old rag...:deadhorse::yikes:

 

we laugh but its hacks like this then make it so we cant cahrge as much. They do a crappy job and people assum at detailing is that way.... makes me sad...

but theres proof there are tons of hacks out there

Now that is funny. You should have asked the dealerships so when they canned her you could have taken the accounts or recommeded them for a finders fee...lol

That woman sounds like a real LOSER and you showed HER by asking all those questions! Great story!!!

 

I told my friend not to count on her being a tenant for very long.

That is a great! I am not sure who is worse...REALLY! It was bad!

I deal with the public every day... I have lots of stories! But this one was perfect to share!

hehehe LOL Nope! Trust me I know why she has the dealership accounts. She did have some ahhhh...... great assets! They will have a HARD time letting her go :giggle:

 

Tonya...did you ask for a sample of the product...go back and ask...lol....tell her if its good you will send people to her for the no buff shine....

I truely don't think I can go back and keep a straight face. :rollinglaugh: Maybe I will ask him to get a sample from her. Not me I just can't do it :rollinglaugh: I really think I laughed with Sparkie for about 20 minutes.

It does not happen often but sometimes you just know when you don't want someone as a customer of the bank. Plus, she told me she pays her guys cash at the end of the day. :thud:

I know she said her guys don't have bank accounts. I remained as professional as possible and wished her the best of luck.
