This client contacted me after recently purchasing this Avalanche. Seems it looked great until the sun came out and even his mom commented on how bad it looked! As this was to be his daily driver, we opted to do the best we could with a single stage polish as a two stage was out of the question economically. I have been using my PC7424 for all single stages lately as it allows me to use a more aggressive pad/polish combo without having to go around and clean up any potential marring or hologramming. Even on black, I can get great results with a heavy polishing or compounding pad and a polish like Power Finish. The goal here was not to make the paint perfect, but to make it look as good as possible. We achieved between 80-90% correction in the end and even in the direct sun. only the worst of the RDS were visible. The client did a very good job washing it before bringing it in so I just gave it a quick bath and got it inside. It was clayed with a few clays we are testing and then I got straight to polishing. Total time - approx 12 hours. The Avalanche upon arrival. The ever popular dealer installed "kaleidoscope paint" option Oh, the horror! Wetsanding marks after the dealership removed a scratch for him. Thanks guys! AWESOME! This just keeps getting better. A few RDS for you as well. After a couple test runs, I chose GI Yellow with Power Finish with my PC7424 and this was the result on most panels. Some panels were really bad like this and required two hits or I just went to GI White and Power Finish. Pillars were grey. Rear 1/4 done. Rear door done. Just a wee bit of an improvement, eh? Afters with 2 coats of Colli 845.
Incredible job Ken. Awesome 50/50s. Those were some of the worse holograms I have seen, nasty swirls also.
I wonder what the Griots would have done with its extra power? Amazing results nontheless with the 7424! I know the customer was very happy.
truck looked like an ad for desert storm. the looks of an avalance are sure an aquired taste. nice job.
Those were brtal holograms. my goodness i have never seen anything like it! Fantastic work Ken! Ken why the decision to use the PC instead of a rotary for this detail?
I sell 30 Porter Cables for every rotary I sell so its important to show guys what is really possible with this machine. All my one steps are done with a PC as I can use a very aggressive polish and pad combo without having to go around again and clean up with another pad/polish.
Great job Ken, what was the LSP on this one...I dont think I saw it but then again I was never good at reading comprehension. The PC is underestimated sometimes in what it can really do if you bump up on the pads and polish and get the right combo. Sometimes it may take, feel like it is taking longer, but you will still get great looks. Edit: nvm found it, nice choice with the 845!
LSP was Colli 845 on this one. Wait until I post the Harley F150 I did a few days later. Looked worse than this one.
