Client picked this vette up last fall and wanted it polished up for this summer. Neither of us suspected the horror that awaited! The car was originally booked in for a one day, single stage polish. At noon on the second day I wasn't around the car once yet so my trusty sidekick T-dawg came out. We eventually spent a total of 17 hours on this car. I was better off to spend the extra time on the car and deliver it in awesome shape then to just do the job quoted and have it look like ass as soon as the sun came out. Jambs, engine, emblems cleaned up with AG Powermax3 and RG brushes Car was presoaked with Powermax3 to strip any old LSP Washed with Megs Hyper wash. Tires and wheels cleaned with AG Custom Wheel Cleaner Clayed with Bilt Hamber Soft Clay with OID as lube Flex 3403, GI Orange, Gi Grey Wool, Menz Compounding, LC Black, Menz PG, Menz PF, Scholl S30 Colli 845 Blackfire All Metal Sealant on wheels White Pearl Tire Dressing Glass polished with DG Nu Glass on Flex with 4" white LC pad The offender. Even before washing under a cloudy sky you could see the damage. This should have been a sign. Dirty jambs. Hmmmm....... Emblems were so caked that even after soaking them for 30 - 40 minutes in APC and using brushes, we still couldn't get them 100% clean. That would have required removing them. After washing under some lights Even some holograms tossed in for good measure! First attempt at the hood was PG and GI Orange Compounding pad Not the result I was hoping for Next try was GI Grey Wool and Scholl S03+. Still not good enough. Decided to say screw it for now and start on the sides which got PG and Menz compounding pad. I eventually came back to the hood and beat it into submission with GI grey wool and PG at 1800 rpm. The whole car was eventually done with Menz PF on LC orange and Scholl S03+ on LC black. Nasty WTF? Looks like someone applied a decal shortly after the horrid repaint and then removed it. DOH! More nasty respray shots This just keeps getting better Even the taillights were hammered The solution? 3M green and PG Looking better Other side If I just squeeze a little harder, the clog will clear itself. I was right! LOL After Deeper ones around the outside were left. 50/50 on rear bumper skin Rear bumper before... and after After Menz PG and Menz compounding pad Trunklid 50/50 Some water etching Some scratches were too deep to chase Front bumperskin 50/50 After polishing - no LSP Finals with Colli 845 Wheels got Blackfire All Metal Sealant and tires got White Pearl
nice work. 17hrs is a ton of time but the results im sure were well worth it. So the vehicle was originally scheduled to go in for a full day job just doing a light polish and then you wound up doing a full blown correction? What did the owner say when he seen the vehicle?
Not much until I showed him these pics! LOL He admitted he had no idea how bad it was so he was very appreciative.
Wow, you guys really earned your money on this job! Corvette paint is like a rock, but very rewarding when done right. I'm sure the remaining defects were not even visible outside, it looks like they were very well rounded out... Simply awesome work!! Looks amazing!
We got well over 90% correct inside so outside, even in the sun, the deeper ones on the trunklid were barely visible.
great job, as usual, one trick I have learned for nasty emblems is a q tip and a bit of compund, works wonders
Extremely nice work Ken, that is some turnaround. PS: when I saw the pic showing the door to your garage, I thought you had taped it off with 3M painter's tape!
OMFG YOU DIDN'T USE CRYSTAL ROCK! J/K nice work man. I guess after seeing those swirl marks you decided to bring out the big guns.
well that's great. There is nothing like going the extra mile to have a satisfied customer in the end. Stunning results and nice photography work.
I was just in the garage complaining about polishing my dailydriver which has some small random scratches, some so difficult to see you have to angle a flashlight...then I come in and see a car like this! Make me appreciate some of the amazing work yall do. Great job!
Wow Ken, you had your hands full with that, but once again you got it handled. Great turn around buddy.
Glad to see you didn't give up when it was looking to be a little difficult to find the right combo to tackle that beast. I bet his neighbors will think he got a new car but the same color, so much more shine and depth to it, really brought it back to life!
I never give up, not my style. Some days you have to stop looking at the clock and just make it right. That was one of those days. Anything less than what we did would have looked like ass out in the sun so it had to be done.
Great Work Ken,I cant wait to see what magic you are gonna do with my car....I will be dropping it off on Thursday night....as discussed...see you then. PS:Its Manny with the LS 460L...TTYL
