I guess you haven't tried M95 and M105 then? #26 and #21 are worth mentioning too, as well as #16.

This could be something great for Meguiar's but only time will tell.

3M sucks in the retail market. Meguiars dominates. Seems like a good match. If they put there collective R&D together they could come up with some fantastic stuff.

This merger certainly makes things more interesting. I wonder how much will change with existing products (pads and whatnot) vs what will be developed. 3M has some seriously deep pockets.

this is very interesting, it does make sense though. 3m just wants to target more of the market.
Megs is more weekend detailer orintated (with some pro stuff), 3m is more body shop orintated. So it makes sense, 3m wants to own a larger market share.

I cant see 3m changing megs much, maybe small thins but megs has a winning system that im sure 3m will want to capitlize on... its the old saying if it aint broke

I guees only the future will tell what is in store for both companies

I checked 3M's website, and this is on there under there news section. No other information than what's in the OP. They also aquired a swedish filtration company earlier this month.

Does 3M have deep pockets....

I don't think so. There are heaps of products that blow away all three of those brands
I just found out about it through the professional car wash and detailing Emagazine

This won't affect me as I stopped using Meguiars in 2000 and won't use any of their products ever again and I've made one system that blows away any trim care product on the planet and honestly, their polishes I can't stand

No disrespect to those who use it but it doesn't provide the results that I demand, which Prima, Menzerna, Hi Temp EC, Aussie Gold, Driven and especially, GLARE do every time

I might buy 3M delicate blue painters tape but that is all I'm getting from them

Companies that buy out alot of their competitors, I steer clear of as due to their domination, they will raise prices and sometimes play with the formula's or design and make it worse

I think it will be business as usual. They are both very large corporations in the mass market, with all the r&d budget they need. The reason they don't do boutique stuff is because they don't make as much money doing it.

All that may happen is that you see less of Barry Meguiar (Baz will be topping up his dayglo tan on the newly purchased HMS Carnauba in the Caribbean), and future press releases may use the term 'Car Crazy' somewhat less than 12 consecutive times. :D

No harm done from what I can see. Compared to a company like Dow Corning, Megs is still pretty small.

I actually just read "In Search of Excellence" and it seems like 3M's concept is if you own or produce most of the competition, no matter what you can not loose. They have been operating that way for quite a while.

now if 3m buys them.. and keeps the branding i don't get why they would sell. the owner already has millions and is set for life and so is his great great great great great great grand children. so what can 3m offer. to take all the fuss of owning a company away..fund a new adventure for the owner? it seems super smart for 3m.. but if i was Meguiars i wouldn't do it. what's the point unless you tired of the industry or need some cash to improve your standings in the industry.

personally i don't use their products. i have years ago but not in the last 5 or so. and only a couple. they are a good company and keep moving forward with new products/idea's. if 3m buys them i don't know if they are going to expand much.. maybe the brand will stay with the current lineup. i still don't think this is a smart move.. but i am curious to see how high 3m's offer is.

This is how many consumer companies work like Proctor and Gamble. They have lots of brands that often compete with each other.

3M is the largest producer of abrasives....alot of car products use their abrasives...so I would bet Meg's uses their abrasive also....the difference is the base there used in and the way they are milled...

you can get abrasives milled anyway you want....menz mills their own....but never know where the abrasives come from (3M)?...just buy it raw and mill it to your specs...

maybe 3M is going to drop their appearance line and use Megs instead and just concentrate on refinishing products...

Nobody knows what's going to happen next for sure.
I remember Cingular + AT&T merge in wireless, first they adopted the Cingular name to be trendy later they decide to go back to "AT&T mobility" since it has so many years of heritage.
Honeywell bought Allied-Ssignal (makers of Fram, Prestone & Garrett turbo), well they keep those names the same since average Joe knows what those 3 products are, change them to Honeywell then they may "what Honeywell anti-freeze?"

My guess 3M would leave Meguiars line up prety much the same, you may find small font on the label ("By 3M" of some sort soon, thats' about it ).

One thing for sure, some heads will roll at both corporations to reduce overhead. So either polish your resumes or start kissing ass of the 3M VP of automotive division:kiss:

i think the closest comparison is alienware and dell.

alienware is basically exactly the same plus benefits from dell such as trade in values and all their monitors and such.. dell just helps out where it can.. and i am sure the same goes for 3m and Maguiar's.. things will only get better.. 3m got to where it is b/c it knows how to make quality affordable products for a wide variety of applications for home use to products for 3million dollar film presses. the options with 3m are limitless and i think this will only improve maguiars.. i just hope all 115 or so staff members remain and 3m adds more and more $$ to help this new;y acquired brand grow. they aren't going to halt there growth.. they want to enhance it.. that is what 3m does!!!
