2007 GMC Rescue Fire Truck

Always look forward to these details, I never know what size I’ll be getting….well this one I knew the size as the owner told me, but I always look forward to these bad boys. On with the Show, the vehicle:

2007 GMC Rescue Fire Truck

This is what greeted me as I stepped in the room:


This one actually arrived a few days before I got to it, at first it didn’t look to be in bad shape but then I got a closer look and started to see what I was really up against:



Bad water spots :shakehead:


Well the exterior wasn’t too, too bad, nothing I couldn’t handle.

As for the interior, the interior was actually in reasonable shape:







The rear passenger side was quite clean




Here are all those buttons again, not as many as the other trucks I’ve done but these buttons sure got my attention.

As you can see just some minor dust to take care off, nothing to serious. But the driver side of these trucks always get a tad dirty:

But it is expected, I mean these trucks get driven back from the US, so they have to get a little dirty. Well at least it makes the interior details a bit interesting for me :thumb:

Well as usual, I started off with the interior. Got my Meg’s APC diluted with hot water 20:1 ratio, my Swissvax brush, a Costco yellow MF towel and the air compresor:


I’m always impressed on the wipe down, I mean the vehicle is a bit dirty but every time I think that the vehicles turn out worse then I expected. Well finished giving the entire interior a good wipe down, every gap and every vent that the vehicle had. Well this is how the water finished off after the wipe down:

A tad dirty. Well once the wipe down was done on to dressing the interior.

To dress the interior I used Optimum Protection Plus:

I sprayed it directly on all the surface and wiped off with another Costco MF yellow towel:


Well that takes care of the interior, on to the rims, tires and wheel wells.

I got my tools ready:


First off got my P21S Total Auto Wash and gave the wheel well a generous spray:


Then, wile I let the Total Auto Wash sit, I sprayed P21S Gel on the rims:


Then I sprayed ARO on the tires, man I love how this stuff works :thumb:

Just spray it on and watch it go to work :wicked:

Well went back to the wheel wells with the help of my long handle brush (which needs to be replaced, poor thing has past his life expectancy waiting for the package from Rocco :waiting2


Once I was satisfied with the wheel wells on to the rims, with the help of my Swissvax brush I agitated P21S Gel:


Then on to giving the tires a good scrub, with the help of one of my Meg’s brush:


Well all that scrubbing looked something like this:


Ready to be rinsed off:


This process was done to all the wheel wells, tires and rims. Then on to washing the rest of the vehicle. For this I got my Spotless System out to play, hooked the houses up, checked the on board TDS Monitor on the System:

Now I’m ready for spot free washing and with a vehicle this size I need the spot free system :thumb:

Got my two buckets with grit guards, a white ShMITT and I used Meg’s Gold Class Shampoo:

Well washed the entire truck, one section at a time. I break these trucks in to section’s, I find this methods works best….besides these trucks can be over whelming if I were to tackle the entire beast all at once oh and this one is small compared to the other bad boys I’ve done.

Well once I had completed washing the entire truck, I used the air compressor to remove as much water as possible and dried the vehicle off with my Dehydrator Drying Towel.

Now to the fun stuff, protecting the large toy. To protect these large vehicles, I’ve been using Duragloss Polish Bonding Agent #601, then followed up with Duragloss Total Performance Polish #105 and finished off with Duragloss Aquawax #951 to give it that extra oomph. Inner glass was cleaned with Stoner invisible Glass and wiped clean with The Thief Glass Towel. Outside windows were treated with Duragloss Aquawax #951. Well here are the end results:

Oh yes the tires were dressed with Optimum Tire Shine, I used the same stuff on the wheel wells too.

Well that was that, nice truck and always love the way they finish off. But the owner has been pleased with the Duragloss products, I don’t mind them either. So far protection has been quite good. I’m starting to run low so time to get the large containers…hint, hint Chris.

I would be SOOO nervous detailing the button area... I am assuming you dont spray anything directly onto that button area correct??

Aww, come on, I hope you more than "don't mind them"... You gotta like em a little more than that!!

Next time you have the chance try letting the 105 cure for 12 hours before you put anything else on it.. I like telling people when the take possesion of a vehicle "If you think it looks good now, wait till tomorrow".. I know they must think I am feeding them a line of BS BUT when it really does look better the next day as I said it would, it buys credibility

Thanks sneek, it's funny becuase when I first started detailing these trucks, the owner told me not to beother with the interior. I told him I'd do one for free and ever since he always wants the interior now :thumb:

:nod: on that panel I don'd spray directly, I spray it on the towel and then wipe it carefully. I was told that that it would be okay to press the buttons but I'd have to make sure they go back to there normal state...now you know how that goes, you press a button once then again and again and then before you know it you can't remember what position the button was on hahahahaha so I just wipe it as carefull as possible and try not to look a the BIG red buttons :tiptoe:

To be honest DG is very interesting, every time I use it it gets better and better...I'll have to try the 12 hour method, can't say I've tried that yet. But I'll be ordering larger containers of it as the owner is really impressed with this sealant :applause2:

Great job as usual and of course the interior is AWESOME. I get you on having a method when you do a big job, if you don't you waste so much time. If I ever get approached about doing a fire truck I'm just gonna say .... "Hey I know this guy in Canada...."

Thank you Klumz glad you enjoy the detail :thumb: as for P21S Gel, what I do is spray all the rims let it sit for at least 5min and then agitate. But the rims on this truck were different compared to the other ones, they seemed to have some kind of chemical coating on them. When I gave them a quick rinse they were beading like crasy I asked the owner if perhaps they put a coat of protection at the factory and he said he did not ask for any protection on this truck. Well they turned out quite nice and they were still beading like crasy too :shrug:

Thank you Sparkmyster and yes I agree the difference from before to the way DG finished off the vehicle is quite notisable, owners and I are very pleased with the sealant. Owner likes the glossy look too oh and yes the owner has commented that the vehicle looks better a few days after I've detailed it go figure huh.

Glad your enjoying these details gmblack3, I tend to make them a tad long but glad you guys aren't getting bored of them. As for using polish on the wheels, no, no polish required. The rims just needed a good cleaning but to be honest it seemed as though they were had a coat of something on them, they were beading like crasy and were quite easy to clean wish I new what they put on those rims...I'll find out eventually :detective:

As for Optimum Tire Shine, I just ran out of the gallon I had and if I'm not mistaken it was the old formula, I got another gallon coming my way not sure if it's the new forumula though. I'm curious too about the new formula, I'll keep you posted when it gets here...besides I'll post pictures :whistle:

Yea, a method is always good to have. Man I still remember the first fire truck I did, it was a simple wash and wash too and it took me two days :what: and I left some skin on that truck too hahahaha but now I've got a process that works for me and I keep on getting faster on these trucks.
