I usually apply it to glass, I have it on my vehicle and the gf's and it works amazing. Not sure how long it lasts on the exhaust but I know of...
Wash the car with Dawn, then IPA wipe down after drying. Yes to everything. I think you can top it after one week.
What temperature where you applying it in? I've found that in cold weather (40s) it doesnt pass the swipe test but still comes off easily after 10...

As far as I know they use the same clear on the carbon as they do on the rest of the car. I've never had a problem with the M's roofs.
