Just spray a cleaner, brush, and then rinse off. You want to preserve the grease but it's also a trap that makes all kinds of grime stick to it.
They are great for rinse less washes. I prefer Über sponge for regular car wash soaps. Everyone on this forum is anal about marring. :-)
