2 weeks ago a friend of mine asked me a question of what products to use for a nubie weekend warrior to detail his daily driven silver Merc, provided he has an orbital polisher to work with. i told him that he probably would like to use an aio since he only had a weekend or maybe even less to detail his car. i told him to get optimum poli Seal, so he did look for it but he couldnt find the product, my supplier even ran out of it. so he asked what's the next best thing? so i say, why dont u try Klasse AIO, with luck he managed to get his hands on a bottle of KAIO along with a 3M waffled polishing pad (black) , about half a dozen of MFs, a bottle of OPC and ONR too. He spent the weekend detailing his car, exterior and engine compartment and he's really happy with the result. He came back to me and asked me what would be the best (and affordable) lsp to put on top of his DD's now cleaned paint job? i answered, 845. so he did apply 2 coats of 845 and even more stunned at the result he got. now another friend of mine came up to me today and asked me the same question, he just bought a cheap orbital (the ones u can get at hardware superstores), and wanted to me to give him an advice of what products to use, to get his car as good as the first guy's, and he also stated that he will use 845 as lsp. now this got me thinkin, if he's gonna put 845 anyway, should i advise him to go the aio route like the previous guy? or should i just tell him to get a dedicated polish? the products that he is able to get are: Klasse AIO Optimum hyper polish Optimum hyper compound he will be using the product with a 3mBlack Polishing pad and a cheap orbital followed by Colli845 as the lsp thanks in advance for any input guys
Bob I was curious since you recommended Optimum Poli-seal first and then Klasse AIO how you would compare the two? I never used Opt poli-seal but have used Klasse AIO. I think Klasse does a good job cleaning the paint. I also heard Zaino AIO is also very good but have not tried it yet either. Do you like Poli-Seal better? If so, why? Thanks
perhaps a finishing polish with a finishing pad? For example, m205 with a LC black pad? or menzerna 106 with a black pad?
Poli seal has little correction capability. I would go with Powerfinish on a white pad and youll get nice results.
I would get white LC pads / Green Uber pads to start. I would also get poli-seal and powerfinish. I learned how to "use" a PC with poli-seal. Little margin of error and it provides great practice until you feel comfortable with the machine. Once you get comfortable, Powerfinish and either of those pads will provide a considerable paint correction without going overboard.
Polish and Foam Pad Combination – Optimum (OPT) polishes and Lake County CCS pads are a good combination for the neophyte detailer
hi guys, im sorry just managed to get back online, had a medical emergency a couple of days back in the family. wow im honored having u guys replying to this thread. @socal Brian, the reason i suggested Poli-Seal first before Klasse AIO is because i've had more experience with the product. Infact i didnt know that my supplier here had Klasse AIO in stock until he offered it to my friend who asked for Poli-seal (in which it turned out that it was out of stock). i used to use Poli-seal when i was still using orbital buffers and i like how it cat cut quite aggresively yet produce a quite nice finish. @CGdetailing&BoostedMk6 : finishing polish on a fininshing pad will work well with a run of the mill orbital? maybe i should send him some of my s40 and have him try i out. thanks for the tip mates! havent tried this before. @GDAL&TOGWT : hey there guys, im honored that u guys took the time to reply to my thread, i have learned ALOT from the posts that u guys have put in this forum all these years. TOGWT told me what detailing really is, and Gianni, without u, 911fanatic and some other people over here, i wouldnt have tried 845, thanks for introducing me to this unbelievably good and cost-effective product! Also thanks for the tips, now i can confidently advise my friend on what pad-polish combo he should order. (we can get uber and LC pads easily where we live also, so thats a plus, since that means we wouldnt have to order them from the states).
Update guys: Yesterday , after a long discussion me and my mate decide that what might work best for him and his machine is the Megs 105/205 duo, we figured that since they are of the non diminishing type of polish (and compounds) they will allow more correction to be had with his presumably less than powerful orbital. I hope that I would be able to talk him into posting some before after pics when he's done, he's rather shy I'll keep you guys updated regards, bob
