would you do it? i need some advice on a situation. i currently have a stock BMP 2008. six speed, basically no options. its got a little over 16,000 miles on it now. i work at a vw/audi/porsche dealership, and someone just traded in a 2007 UG that is a full APR Stage 2+, including ABD Stage 2 intake, ABD Front mount intercooler, APR 3" turbo back, SPAX RSX Coilovers, Eurojet PCV, blacked out mirror covers and blinkers, hotchkis 27mm front and rear sways, FK front sway bar links and some other appearance mods. it has leather and premium sound as well and an AWE boost gauge. its a 2007 and has 36,XXX miles on it. long story short, i have the opportunity to trade in my GTI (which i still owe money on, but they will obviously pay off the rest of my loan), and then take out a new loan on the APR GTI for around 20K at 5.9%. would you do it? my concerns are the fact that its already pretty heavily modded, the higher miles, and the fact that the warranty will be out in around 14k miles, while i still have over 30K miles left on mine. the techs have checked it out thoroughly and say that it looks and runs great mechanically. my payments would be a little higher, but probably not by much. should i go for it, or am i getting myself into some trouble here? the initial offer was that they would trade me all of the mods/parts for my stock/oem parts straight up, but that is kind of hairy because then they would have to reflash the other cars ecu back to stock, etc.
do you want it so bad? Do you need it? Are you into mods? Me - never modified a car, for me it is waste of money...
I say stick with what you have and mod it yourself, modded car with 36k in the GTIs there could be a few issues such as fuel pump, cam follower, cam lobe, PCV and few other common issues that may creep up and be a paint. Not saying those mods are not nice but you will have to see how much this trade will cost you overall and is that worth it to you for those mods. I say if you want the mods on that car, and you know the dealer will look over the trouble areas, i.e. cam follower, fuel pump, and cam lobe, and payments are not that much higher you could go with it. Or mod your car yourself to what you want, I am not a fan of ABD for some reason but the rest of the mods are pretty decent. Then again, what do I know? As long as you not leaving the MkV crew! haha
yes i do want the car pretty bad. im a vw/audi/porsche freak. used to own a modified audi s4. now i have the GTI and its stock, and i've been wanting to mod it, but dont have the money to play around with right now to mod my own car. the modified car has around 5K worth of mods in it.
see the issue is i dont have the 3-5k to play around with to do what i would want to with my own car. basically everything on the other car is what i would do anyways, which why im considering it.
im so torn over this! the optimum outcome is that they would swap out all of the mods for my stock parts. if they would do that, i would be all over it.
tell them you'll take it if the payments stay the same. sure you work for them but it doesnt mean you cant bust there chops over the price.
thats basically what i said, but the issue is thats not really up to them. the payments/interest rates are up to the bank, and the apr rates change often with the economy. i have 0% financing now on my GTI cause i bought it brand new. its impossible to get 0% financing on a used car, especially now, and the lowest they said i could get would be 5.9%APR since its used.
a lot of the MKV guys are telling me i shouldnt do it, and that the only thing they would do is take the parts.
My father always told me not to mod your cars. If you want a fast car, buy one that is fast from the factory. Apart from exhaust, wheels or MAYBE suspension, I wouldn't mess with it.
no more than 75 a month probably. and thats with no money down. if i put 2K down, the payments would stay the same.
hmm. dunno. you would be better off just trying to score the parts! 75 aint bad. keep me in the loop, would ya? and let me know if you get it. I'll help ya detail it!
I would do it, contrary to what most people say. It's still low miles, and pretty fun. How long are you planning to be paying it off for though? That would be the deciding factor for me. I would keep that for 1-2 years then move on. That's just IMO, sure, you could have problems but 14k is still a lot left on the warranty, depending on how far you drive.
Just saw your post on golvmkv, as they said MkV have issues and would not want someone else issues, try to get some of the parts. APR will switch programs for something like $50/100, and you can do some of the other parts pretty easy in an afternoon or after hrs. I would try to go that way as the others said over there, I am agpatel on there as well fyi.
APR doesn't transfer from car to car. They will only transfer rights to the purchaser of the car. Dave
