So, I was browsing the Club Lexus forums as usual... and I come across this pic: Check out the buffer trails on that black civic rear quarter panel in the background... It's so bad, it makes you think it was a joke of some sort where they intentionally did it. I wish I had a closeup pic of it. Can anyone top that?
I'll give it a shot. Check out a customers's M3...this is how it came from dealer... Let's take a walk around the passenger side of the car starting the the rear....
I worked with a guy that said that was how you could tell it had been detailed. This was after I told him he should stop paying whoever he was paying to do his car.
I definitely agree. The Civic needs a proper polish. The SC needs a complete new paintjob and bodywork haha. Wleez25... OMG that poor BMW. This makes me sick to my stomach.
Subpar technique, rotary polisher and a wool pad is typically the culprit. Even an experienced detailer can get holograms though when cleaning up heavy defects with a rotary. It's the subsequent steps that are needed to clean up the finish to perfection. Most dealerships have their way with a rotary, dirty wool pad and rocks in a bottle and then smother the vehicle in a glaze to cover up their work and make the car "shine".....for a week (IMO). -Kody-
Any time you put a rotary pad on its edge = lifting it up and using the outside area of the pad vs the center/inner area, you allow it to dig into the paint and this is the result. I have seen guys put the pad/machine on edge and run really fast horizontal runs on hoods, fenders, and vertical runs on doors, and make this happen. They somehow think this is how you correct/polish/etc/ quickly and correctly, because they know that the outer edge turns faster than the center of the pad, which is true, but the side effects of doing this, well, look at the pics above and that's what you get. You can also get some marking from the entire pad if you do not know how to properly break down the product used, and just bore it into the paint and then wipe if off. It will always be amazing to me that people see this on their own cars and think that this is acceptable, when most other cars, cared for or not, do not look like this.. Dan F
I get beyond frustrated when I fully explain to friends/customers why cars look like this and they just can't seem to wrap their heads around it. A friend of mine at work has holograms all over her Accord, obviously I pointed them out to her and gave her a price on making the car look as it should. I hear from her like a week later and she said "we bought a $75 Groupon, I'm hoping that will take care of the damage." SO frustrating! -Kody-
-Kody- I know, its an uphill battle that we may never win. Some people just dont get it and never will. And those dang Groupon/LivingSocial half-off things just kill me too. You are never going to get a good detail for half off, you are only going to maybe get half a detail that is probably crap too ! Lucky you !! One of the best all around selling tools I have is my own shop vehicle. I keep it up all year long, make sure my Clients see it so they can compare "correctly detailed paintwork" vs the other guys, and it pretty much usually seals the deal. So, maybe you park your vehicle next to her Swirl-Accord awhile and she will see for herself there IS a difference! Dan F
some people just don't care. until some inexperience detailer burns their paint. this co-work of mine gets his 99 jetta buff every month LOL because I'm too expensive !
