I have been researching buffers all day and I am moreconfused then ever as to what to buy. :shead: I am a total beginner and never tried buffinga car before so any help on would be appreciated. I want to remove light swirl marks out of thepaint of a white Mercedes SLK. I want something that is going to be easyand safe to use for a total newbie. These are the buffers I have been looking at: Porter Cable 7424XP Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital Meguiars Dual Action 6 Inch Polisher G110v2 Flex Tool XC 3401 VRG Orbital Polisher Also any recommendations on polishes? Adam's Polishes Menzerna Polishes Meguiar's Polishes Griot's Machine Polish
Buy the Griots from Phil and get Meguiars and Menzerna polishes and compounds.........................but what do I know. :hmph:
^^That's what I'd do. Personally I have a Porter Cable, not the Griot's but from what I hear, the Griots is better. And on top of that Menzerna Power Finish and Super Finish are my 2 favorite polishes.
When I first started with a buffer, way back last summer, I bought the Grigot's then the Meg's 5" backing plate with their microfiber system. Since then I've added 5" Uber foam pads. Everyone said a 5" plate/pads would be easier to work with than a 6" one & I've found that to be true. I began with Meg's polishes/waxes and they worked fine, but I've moved on since then to other brands. There are lots of 'how to' videos around on buffers that would be worthwhile to watch, Autogeek has some on their forum.
if price isnt too big a consideration i would go for the flex 3401 it is a quality piece and works well on the harder ceramic paint on your slk.
Griots or PC with 5.5" Megs MF Cutting Disc / M105 for cutting and 5.5" Uber Green polishing pad / Menz Power Finish for polishing. Done. For 99% of people out there, ( short of your car being absolutely hammered ) this combo will take care of what you need to do without spending a fortune on different products.
I love my Flex 3401. It can take some pretty heavy abuse and its packs some serious power. I just ordered a griots super duper excited. I agree with Ken, keep it simple and give those a shot
