I post on another car forum, and i mentioned the product Black Wow for exterior trim. Another member responded by saying he uses Kiwi shoe dye to do his exterior trim (90 VW), around the wheels. He removes the trim to do this. Has anyone done this? This is the first time i heard this done. Comments?

It isn't the first I have head of this. This is a really old trick. People say it takes away the fading and all of that. It does work, I have seen it, but I would much rather use something designed for trim rather than shoe polish. Plus a customer might look at me funny if they saw me applying Kiwi to their car. I think the only problem with it is letting your car sit outside for a long time. The VW guys have been doing it for a longgg time.

The best way to go is to polish them with non abrasive products

Agreed a trick (almost) as old as me, but then we didn't have the correct car care products available.

FWIW- Only 'some' old school methods are worthwhile, whereas many are compromises due to unavailability of suitable products
