I posted this on s2ki as well, so this may be a repost for some. So today I had to put my dog of 14 years down. It cost $312 to put her down. What if I didn't have the $312 to put her down? Would I have to just let her suffer? I'm sorry but that stuff just pisses me off that it costs so much to do something no one wants to do!! RIP Noelle 9.26.94-7.5.09
Sorry for your loss. I had to take the day off work with the last dog I had to put down. I couldn't stop crying and I'm not afraid to admit it.
Thanks. I didn't cry all the way to the vet--got choaked up signing the papers saying to do it, and didn't start crying 'till the doctor walked in with the needle. Forgot to say I loved her before she went to =/. But I was pretty damn sad, cried more than I thought I would actually. But it's been 2 years coming now so I was a little bit prepared.
I'm so sorry to hear this, I don't know what I would do without my Daisy. I have a friend who's dog died, and he says he cried harder and was more upset then when his own father died. It's amazing how attached you can get to a dog. My condolences.
I'm so sorry to hear this. As a dog owner I can't imagine what it would be like to have to that. But it was for the best, you'll get through this. Keep your head up, sorry for the loss.
Seems there's no "rule" for this. IOW, it's up to each vet? Seems this should be a no charge item, especially if you've had a long term relationship with your vet? But, more on topic, I DEFINITELY know the pain of losing a friend of the purest kind. Oh, if only I'd have listened to my dog several years ago, I wouldn't have had to give away over half of what I owned to my ex!
I'm so sorry for your loss. I was crushed when we had to put my childhood pet down a few months back due to cancer.
I am very sorry to hear about your loss. people who don't own pets, especially dogs imo, have no clue about what the loss is. we just watched "marlee and me" a few weeks ago and i cried watching that. the memories were hard to deal with. We feel your pain; sorry again for your loss.
Sorry for your loss Aaron. I had to put my dog down about 8 months ago. He just died from old age. Heck he was 16. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I literally had a hard time even keeping it together when the final moment came. Our doc was great and took care of him since he was a puppy. Trust me it takes time but it gets better.
In my lifetime I also have had to put down a few of my pets who I consider family. It never gets easier to do. My vet , who has remained my go to guy for years, pulled me aside after putting down my cocker spaniel a few years ago. He informed me of all the pet rescue groups and no-kill shelters looking for foster homes and people to adopt. So as the song goes " As one door closes another one opens". I now have Abby a golden retriver saved from a couple splitting up and Molly a german shepard/coon mix from a no-kill shelter. Two 90 lbs kids who think they are lap dogs.So maybe as one door has closed in your life it may be another is about to open.Maybe the best way to remember the ones that have passed on is to help save another. Sorry to hear about this as I've had to put 2 of mine down and it was extremely hard. I am shocked though as I didn't know that vets charged for this. I'm in a small town I know but I wasn't charged for either of mine and the vet let my wife and I stay with them as long as we needed and then let us go out the back so we wouldn't have to go through the waiting room afterward.
im also sorry for your loss. my gf and i just got a puppy and we love it like our own, again im sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss man. I had a German Shepherd that died of cancer about 6 years ago. Loosing a pet is always difficult.
Thanks for the sympathy everyone, I really appreciate it! Day after day it gets a little easier to cope though. At least I'm not staying up all night with burnt images of putting her down stuck in my head.
