The kid is on the right track. What's a couple grand for a 500k automobile. Hell these people spend that on a dinner.
In case your not joking..Details high end cars. Lives across the pond, helped design Swissvax Crystal Rock and was just hired by 3M.
If there are customers that would pay him that much for a detail, then why not??? and BTW, it is very difficult to compete with Paul Dalton, as he is one of the VERY BEST detailers the world ever seen.
Me thinks you put Paul on a pedestal, too much. There are countless numbers of people competing with him on a daily basis, and getting the work. If you meant competing for quality, again your rose-tinted glasses blind you from the reality. Paul's certainly a very accomplished detailer, but there are many others his equal or even better.
in video, notice that he is applying Royale by application and not by hand which is wrong from what i have read
One of the advantages that Paul has is that he is good at marketing. Like I said before and I'll say it again, you can only get so ''good'' at polishing a car. There are a decent amount of people on this site that can do the same quality of work that Paul can, it's just he markets himself better. You need to be convinced that the service you are selling is worth the asking price (and then some), and only then can you really sell your services. If you aren't confident, your customers won't be either. Unless you are a trust-fund baby, people like that don't play around with money. It's all about how you sell yourself->presentation, extensive knowledge, quality of work, professionalism... etc.
Maybe you are right... One thing I know for sure is there are a lot of very good - to - excellent detailers, but not very many know how to sell themselves well, by documenting their work to be presented to a client...and seing how many amazing detailers there are on detailingworld would say yes, he is competing with many...
What's the big deal. Paul is across the pond and only can do a few cars a year. The US market has thousands of high end cars that need attention. You pro detailers just need to go market yourselfs.
marketing over substance......in both cases a local detailer here wanted 3 times as much as my M3 to correct my dad's murci, and when questioned as to the reasons why, he argued well you paid more for the car so you can afford to pay more for the detail i laughed and cancelled the job /thread
Gurcharn has been brought up in discussion a few times here. I think recently their was another thread about his work. He is amazing, his shop, his site, his quality - it's definitely the highest level of detailing out there. Many detailers have reached the highest level of detailing...but only a few are moving to expand their marketing and presentation to be considered in the highest elite of detailing. If someone asks me who the best is, I'd say there are a lot that provide the same quality - but the #1 and #2 spots go to Paul and Gurcharn.
