I need Some help with paint correction.

My mom has a 97' Acura RL. Pearl Black. The hood looked absolutely terrible. Many scratches, swirls, etc. Also had many "holograms" in the paint. I used a Makita Rotary at 1200 rpm's with SIP to remove the deeper scratches, then Menzerna 1000/1500/1000 rpm's with 106FF. The swirls came out beautifully, but it seems like the "holograms" in the paint will not come out. My mom said they were very visible under direct sunlight. I can't spot them with my 500w Halogen. I am also using Edge Blue and Green double sided pads.

Any recommendations? I went over the hood again with 106FF, then PO85RD using the 1000/1500/800 method. The hood looks like glass, but I cant be sure If i got the holograms out. Is there any way I should change my method of correction?

Sounds like you have been doing everyting right. After the second round with 106FF it should be good. Wait for a day with sun, and check then!!

As pirex said, you should be good after a second round, your system seems solid. How is your pressure and angle on the rotary?

I guess my one question would be... Are you sure your pads are nice and clean?

I'm just thinking what could cause holigraming with the finer polishes...

You know what, I think a somewhat dirty/full pad could have been the cause. I cleaned my pads before I re-polished today. I mean, the hood looks amazing. It looks like glass, but my mom said the holograms were terrible during the day [when the sun it directly on the car]

I keep the rotary buffer almost flat, slightly angled right for control. I dont use a lot of pressure, just a small amount of downward force.

I'm going it over quickly with PO85RD, just to make sure. I think it gives it a finer finish. Then I'll apply Lusso Revitalizing cream and some wax. If they show Up tomorrow i dont know what Ill do.

Yeah, the pad was fairly clean when I used it. I'm due for some new pads anyways. Im gonna try the LCC pads, I've heard good things. I'm not a huge fan of the Edge Pads.

Plus for some reason edge pads do not work as well with menzerna as other pads. Looks like you are doing things correctly.

what do you mean? I wasn't aware that it was ever locked.

I asked this in another thread of mine, but do you guys knows any good methods of getting really old [3+ year] acid rain marks out of the paint? SIp and 106FF didnt remove them when I polished the trunk.

Well it was locked I re-opened it  well no biggie.

As for polishing 3+ year old acid rain, if it's edged through the clearcoat there's no way to get rid of it, you can try to wet sand it but like I said if it's edged through the clear it's very difficult to remove completely...but just my :2cents:

Yeah, my mom wasn't very on top of taking care of her car. Not worth taking off clear imo. Thanks :thumb:
