Opti Seal

Ive been looking at trying this product for some time now. I would like to hear from people that have used this product and what their experiences are with it. Also how many months can I expect out of just Opti Seal alone.

i have opti-seal and UPGP. For comparison purposes, I'd say Optiseal is much easier to use without streaking.

opti-seal also looks nice, adding some gloss and slightly darkening the paint.

Surprisingly, I don't find opti-seal to be particularly slick, especially compared to UPGP or OCW for that matter.

Overall, it is very easy to use, and any lack of durability (if you can say 2 months or so is lacking) is made up by being able to seal the car streak free in 20 minutes.

Two months seems ok, just thought this stuff would last longer than a typical sealant (2-3 months)

What I find appealing is that I can apply it to the entire car (trim, glass, wheels, etc)

 

Handy around the house as well. I use it on glass shower surrounds including the brightwork and rubber seals, kitchen and bath fixtures and even plastic switchplates. Makes future cleanups a breeze and most things wipe off without the need for chemicals. The bath mirrors don't seem to fog anymore with OS on it.

I've used both quite a bit and find that I like UPGP more in every way, except for how it seems to take longer to cure. They both recommend at least 12 hours between adding another layer, but it seems like UPGP takes longer to cure. I don't mind though because UPGP seems to leave more behind.

 

opti-seal is underrated, i love being able to use it on teh whole car and done within minutes when i dont have the time to do the full job.

 

Environmental and maintenance variables will determine your longevity. You will most likely get 4-5 months if you wash weekly with a product like ONR that cleans gently and adds its own polymer protection. With no booster like a quick detailer or spray wax, you should see 2-3 months. Although this is not any more impressive compared to other sealants, the ease of application makes Opti Seal shine. By being able to apply a coat in 10 minutes, you can keep your car fresh year round without sacrificing a whole day waiting for a typical sealant to cure and remove the residue. Typically I will not wait 12 hours to add a second layer. A hour is plenty because all I'm looking for is even coverage. You will also not see an improvement in looks by applying more than two coats. You can improve longevity a bit by using a prewax cleaner or an AIO like Poli Seal before application.

 

Great idea. going to try this out on the mirrors once i get home tonight.

 

Nothing beats it for its ease of use. Fairly good durability, but loses some in looks and slickness compared to Blackfire Wet Diamond and Menzerna Powerlock. That little spray bottle will go a long way.

 

I agree with Chris idea and next I'll use Poli seal (AIO) prior to Opti seal. OPti seal product is very easy to apply and you could finish a car in just 10 minutes and its very similar to BWD and Menzerna powerlock's slickness and the gloss.

Can I layer Opti Seal with Optimum car wax and vice versa?

 

opti-seal doesnt fend off iron brakedust as much as i'd want it to
back to rim wax/sealant...

 

Chris, is it true the solvents in opti-seal will disolve whatever wax or glaze i have my paint if i apply over the top?

i just bought a bottle from our local supplier and was hoping i could apply it over a wax/glaze combo but seems it wont work

 

I keep finding new uses. I've got a pole light in the front yard with the typical 4-sided, keystone-shaped clear inserts. Every time the bulb gets replaced I found myself yanking out the lenses and cleaning them up because they had waterspots and crud covering them. Last time I cleaned 'em up I gave 'em a shot of Opti Seal.

I just changed the light bulb and left the lenses as-is because nothing stuck to them. Still crystal clear. :applause2:

Yes

Yes the solvent will loosen the bond of your current protection, but no you won't loose it. The bond will be broken, OS will migrate to the paint and cross link and the current protection will redeposit on top of the Opti Seal. You would have to apply OS very heavily and continue to rub it untill it disappeared with a MF to remove your LSP. If you wipe on and walk away...buffing later only if you have streaks, you should have excellent results.

 

Just for the record I have found exactly the opposite.......it has almost always streaked for me where as the competitor does not, not ever.

I do agree that the competition has a slicker finish once cured. Opti Seal just hasn't worked that well for me and is now used in door jambs and the inside of doors in order to use up what I have. It DOES work, just not as well as Ultima. Just my opinion based on my own usage. No shot towards Optima at all.

 

I have been using both Opti-Seal and UPGP for about 6 months now. With Opti-Seal I have zero issues with streaking, UPGP has streaked a couple times but I think that's my fault though for trying to putting down a heavy coat. Both products finish about the same but I have to give UPGP the upper hand in slickness.

 

and in addition to my first post, the opti-seal changes the look of the car (glossy / slightly darkens) on the first coat, whereas the change in the "look" of UPGP comes after multiple coats.

so overall, its quite awesome on glass, not so much on rims with ze iron brakedust as it seems to be bleeding brakedust as opposed to what i get with sealants (only a few dots after a few weeks)
Possibly its not as resistant to heat compared to the bilt hamber autobalm i used last time.
