In the past few months I have become very intersted in nutrituion and nutritional suppliments. I have been doing some research into the pros and cons of organics, which suppliments are good and which are bad. So I figured I would start a thread were we can disucss what we have found, perhaps aiding each other in the search for the best fuel source. Right now i am looking at finding an organic multi vitamium. I have found nutralite which seems to meet all my standards, which is good, howevr i am always looking for more options. so does antone have any suggetions od places to look.... ohh and i have as et of questions i stole from a book my prof wrote to help decide if the suppliments are good bad or tottaly terrific (the books words not mine) well happy eating
I started supplementing since I was 16. Helped with football. Lately, I stopped supplementing (well except for protien drinks). Currently watching carbs and trying to cut down to get my six pack back. Chosing supplements all depends on what you want to do
I'm taking GNC vitamins right now, considering how the food these days aren't as nutritious as back in the day.
Nice thread! I have been taking supplements on and off since I was 17. After I graduated college I worked for a supplement sales company. bulknutrition.com You can check it out. Once I moved away I had to leave the company but I really enjoyed it there. Anyway I am now supplementing protein, creatine w/ NO products in it, multi-vitamin, BCAA's and flaxseed oil. I haven't looked into the organic items yet but that is interesting. I will have to see what BN carries as organic now.
I gave up on supplements about a year ago except for carb replacement packs and electrolyte tabs. I might get started back up on fisol though. I just never saw any return from anything else I was taking. I find my body responds better to eating a ton of fresh fruits and vegetables. (upwards of a 2 pounds of fruit and vegetablers a day) More energy and sick less with a really clean diet. Eat clean and live clean.
I take multivitamins. I'm not stick on a brand but GNC has good ones at a decent price I also take some glucosamine for my joints, because I do alot of freestyle snowboarding in winter so my knee joints take a bash and these help I also work out and and after I take a shakes with 100% pure soy protein (31.5g) and some glutamine to help recovery beside that, I only watch what I eat and try to live healthy and stay in shape. good diets is the key for a healthy life. it does help that my GF is a nutritionist lol CalgaryDetail: watch for those "organics" foods. there's alot of BS and alot of it is marketing scams. I don't mean it's not good, I also buy some organic stuff, it's just alot of cie claims there products are organic, but they are not truly 100% organics. You just pay for the label basically. There's no real standard in organic yet and alot of research is still going on this subjet. I would say try buying stuff from small local farmers or farmers' market instead and grow your own food if you can well that's my 2 cents :afro:
been taking supps. since i was 15. i've been a bodybuilder since age 13, never stopped training even thru naval service, was mr eastern usa in '86, but enough of that my point is like lancem said it all depends on what you're trying to acheive. there's really no substitute for a clean healthy diet and that does'nt mean takink a couple of multi vitamins, it helps but it's not a cure all. healthy living is a lifestyle, you eat healthy 95% of the time. if you're already eating healthy and want to supp. your diet then i would suggest as has already been said, a good multivitamin mineral, omega-3, glucosamine/ chlordritin/msm for joints, and a good meal replacement drink taken when there's no time to eat. hope this helps.
I don't take that many supplements, I believe in a healthy diet period. I eat cereal for breakfast, go to the grocery store for lunch and buy a quarter pound of turkey with some bread and my wife cooks healthy dinners. Sometimes I have a EAS Myoplex for breakfast (the ready-made ones) and I always have a EAS Myoplex (the ones you mix yourself) after my workouts. I also do not drink any fizzy drinks (like Dr. Pepper etc.).
x3 I have a co-worker who has a VitaMix machine in his office. For the past two weeks we have been making fresh fruit and vegetable drinks using 100% juice or V8 as a base along with a combination of banana's, apples, raisins, carrots, celery, cucumber, even adding almonds to the drink...there are a ton of options. I have lost 5-6 pounds, have more energy and feel a lot better by staying away from fatty foods and high fructose corn syrup drinks and incorporating these drinks into my daily routine. There is no way I would be able to eat all the fruits and vegetables in these drinks, but in liquid form it's very easy. Don't waste your money on man-made supplements, do some research and take advantage of what mother nature provides for us. Good luck!
Just out of curiosity where do you think the ingredients found in supplements come from?? Finally something I know a little about. I am an online product/customer service representative (in addition to my 9-5) for Athletic Edge Nutrition. We're on quite of few fitness and bodybuilding forums. If anybody has any questions fire away. I've been supplementing my diet since I was 16 or so for athletics and I never quit lifting and working out post my athletic career. It use to be my main hobby until I got into this detailing obsession. At least thats what my wife calls it.
The reason why people take stuff like Myoplex is because it would be very difficult and expensive to get all those vitamins us regular foods.
a lot of good points on here! everyone should check out Natural Health Information Articles and Health Newsletter by Dr. Joseph Mercola its the best there is when it comes to being and living healthy here is a video on weight loss The main things I have found to being healthy are getting rid of High Fructose Corn Syrup ( which is in everything) eating your raw vegatables (no potatoes) and cutting your carbs.
You have to remember, it took your whole life to get fat/out of shape and getting ripped isn't going to happen over night. You have to in the following order eat clean, do proper cardio, rest and hit the gym. Having a healthy balance is what will work. Personally, I only take Isoflex whey protein and glutatmine.
One of (IMO) 5 things every person should supplement his or hers diet with: 1) Gender specific multi 2) EFA's (Omega 3) 3) Probiotics 4) Antioxidants 5) Dietary fiber
wow lots of gret info here.. keep it comming and i agree most organics ar enot 100% organic. Very few are. however if you ask the right questions you will get the right awnsers. I have contacted a few manufactures to shee what they have to say ... most organic vitanmiun are 70-75% organic. As for the just eating right, yeah that s agood start but the research i have done shows we ahve nutirnet depleated soils, which means not as much nutrition in the food we eat. for example broccoli has way less calciumin it that it did 50years ago. So what we eat is not as healty as we think. For this reason we need to add a suppliment to help balance the loss of this nutrituion. As for the man-made suppliments, i agree stay away. The problem with them is they do not includ everything that the natural ones do. for example, vitamiun C. yueah they can make it in a lab. however there is more to an orange then just VC, there are other parts that help a person absorb everything they need. if the suppliment isrefined and procced in a good way it will not loose the other nuttritional aspects of the orginal source. Well this is what my research and reading has shown me. I am still reading nad learning I hae found a good team of people to help me with it.... so we will see how it goes but los of great info here. :applause2:
