I'm heading to Cali this Sunday morning from Maryland. I just like to know where I should visit or stay away from. I just want to have a fun and safe trip.

California is quite big Franki. Do you have cities that you'll be in or driving through?

 

Gas up in Indiana, Illinois has really high gas prices. The stretch of 80/90/294 immediately south of Chicago often has horrible traffic congestion. If you're taking that route I recommend either trying to drive it on a Sunday, or if a weekday either at night or between 10am - 2PM. Gas is expensive in Colorado too but fairly cheap in Wyoming.
Some excellent breweries and beer towns along the way: Three Floyds Brewery & Brew Pub (9750 Indiana Pkwy in Munster, IN is just three miles or so south of the dreaded 80/94/294 corridor off the Calumet exit) and worth a stop, Michigan has some great breweries and beer towns - most notably Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, ditto Colorado (notably Ft Collins/Loveland/Longmont but Durango isn't bad either). California is way off my turf but if was was near Santa Rosa I'd definitely hit the Russian River Brewing Co. The greater San Diego area is a major brewing mecca too.

Its really not that bad, I am just always pissed off about taxes and fees etc. LOL

 

Franki my brother did this drive years back. Let me ask him what route he took and I will get back to you, I know he made many stops (parks, museums, etc) along the way so maybe he went through some of the same states.

 

I see you are buzzing through Pa, stay away from Happy Valley, and the showers there.....
