    Optimum Opti-Coat

[We (or the installer) guarantee the Opti-Coat against failure in the sense of durability. We don't guarantee against hard water spots or etching from eggs, bird bombs, etc. We sell it like this: “ Opti-Coat is a paint sealant on steroids. Think of it as giving you all the benefits of a wax or sealant (gloss, shine, protection) but with at least 3 years durability”.] Anthony Orosco

Has any professional (they won't release it to non-pros) Beta-tested or tried this product?

I believe Scottwax or at Autopia has had it for about 2 months.

Someone posted some pics at Autopia of a car with it, might have been Scottwax and it did not look that impressive, as least from the pics.

If these claims are true it will change the way detailing is done!

Well, I guess we'll find out how good it is in 3 years or less.

3 years? For a detailing product?
What's the point, your paint will need claying at least twice yearly, so that's it gone after six months.
Pointless and I would severely doubt longevity as per its claims unless the vehicle is a driven-once-a-month garage queen.
Looking forward to being proven wrong all the same.

I talked to Dr. G about this the other day. Opti Guard is more like a coating than a sealant. You really have to know what you are doing when you apply it or you will be able to tell if there are places that are uneven. The only way to get this off is to buff with a compound.

Right now this product can only be sold to actual businesses and a liability form has to be filled out.

The application is very similar to applying Opti Seal. I just got a 10cc sample to tryout, I'm going to use it as soon as I get a chance.

So who do you talk to to get some to try out?

I'm already an Optimum Dealer, so I just requested a sample when I placed my last order. I'm also going to be a dealer for the Opti Guard as well.

[For durability it is not affected by chemicals such as alcohol or prep sol, not to mention soaps. We have a customers truck coated with the product, and now over 100 thousand miles, and the coating is still going strong, resisting such things as bird bombs and a front full of insects(there is minimal etching, but much less than a non treated surface).
For standards my testing involves beading, resistance to particle adhesion(it does not get as loaded as non treated surfaces, almost feeling like it has been clayed , while next to it it feels like sandpaper), gloss and film thickness. Upon installation we get 2-4 microns of film build, and the exact spot is measured on a regular basis, so far no reduction in thickness. For gloss it has retained it's gloss (not a subjective reading but with a gloss scale) and the adjacent panel has faded (Imron paint, not base clear), showing to me that it provides good UV protection as well.] reparebrise - Autopia post

Clear coat 2-3Mils (50-76µ (micron)) thickness; so 2-4µ is substantial. If this applied thickness is sustainable it would have a massive impact on the car paint protection coatings industry

Wow that's insane!!! I wonder if it can be topped any a nuba or spray wax over time, for that extra umph.

Also, how does react to scratches? If it has 2-4 microns, would it become swirled and scratched? If so, do u buff it out?

And you would have to charge an arm/leg for this stuff!!

Does anybody know how much this mystery sealant would cost?

It doesn't sound like it's a product that the average detailer that visits DB would use on a customer's vehicle, much less their own.

Also, if someone is claiming 3 years of durability, they better have been using it for the past 3 years.

I love it when people insists on something that is supposed to last for an x amount of years, and they've only been using it for 6 months.

Good point. As I've said before, durability means nothing to me since I never go more than 3 or 4 weeks without adding a new layer of LSP or changing to a different LSP. Durability only matters in the sac. :p: More importantly, would you be able to top this with a nuba? My guess would be that this coating would give your car a plastic look, in which case, you would want to top it with a nuba. What about when you have to clay and polish your car?
