I would say buy a honda but good luck buying a clean one. That is my price range right now and I am stuck because I cannot find any decent car.

Honda or toyota ... people are always looking for them and willing to pay top dollar (high resale value). My family has been a honda family for 20 years ... never had an issue with them. I bought my wife a toyota and I have been extremely happy with it.

Personally, I think hondas are sportier than toyotas, but the toyota build quality is top-notch.

    honda - accord or civic
    toyota - corolla or camry
nissan - sentra, altima (6 cyl - one of the best engines in the world for reliability, also same engine as the maximas), or maxima

these are the only beater cars id ever consider. there is no way to protect an older car with any type of warranty so you must make sure you get something with a proven record. the cars above are all consumer reports best buys and dont let the 6-cyl iv recommended in the altima scare you for milage, its almost just as good as a 4 on gas. wards automotive top ten engines in the world 15+ years running.

May not be 4wd, but what about a small pickup, like an s10? I drive a 2wd s10 every winter here right by lake michigan where we get lake effect snow. Never had any problems. The 2.2l 4cyl is great a motor and parts for s10's are a dime a dozen.

seriously ive seen some nice clean sentras and maximas for cheap on craigslist check them out. My dad was looking for one to ship out since he was shipping a container anyways. I found him a nice 2003 sentra with a 2004 engine with low milage and it was the sport one (i forget the name) basically an awesome car for around $3000. My dad was stupid didnt listen to me and ended up with a 01 Mirage with broken steering, no headlights, and crappy paint. Sometimes i question his judgement lol sorry for going off topic there but i would recommend looking at nissans

the altima looks great. make sure its had no accidents or at least major ones where there could have been frame damage. I say this cause some people consider hitting the mailbox and scratching the bumper an accident. id say look into that one

I'll ask for a carfax and I'll bring my PTG, provided I go look at it.
