Not only is this my first engine detail, it's the first engine detail this car has received since I bought it new in 2000. Karcher PW Simple Green Xtreme (diluted 1:1) Generic pump sprayer Meg's wheel & fender brush Bucket w/grit guard DG 265 Sam's Club MF towels First I turned the engine on and let it run for about 10min. Then I shut it down and covered the alternator with tin foil. Fired up the new PW, sprayed the engine down, and then sprayed the Simple Green mix liberally all over the engine bay. I let that dwell for about 5min. and then sprayed more of the Simple Green mix. After letting the 2nd application dwell for about a minute, I went to town with the Meguiar's wheel & fender brush. Boy was that thing covered in black gunk! I rinsed with the PW again, wiped down with a MF towel and then sprayed DG265 all over the black plastic and rubber hoses. Closed the hood and tidied up a bit. After at least 15min. I came back and wiped off all the excess DG265. That's all I did today since I spent the first half swapping the intake in my Mazdaspeed3 and flashing the ECU with my new Cobb AccessPort! Before Pics: After Pics: Comments, critique, opinions wanted as this is the first one! I've read so many of the forum members' own processes that I'm sure there's gotta be something I'm missing. Thanks for looking! eace:
Excellent job. I think I've been lucky, I haven't had to do any heavy duty cleaning to my engine bay. I'm fortunate enough to just hit the engine bay with some S&W and a microfiber, dress it down and head to the next show.
That engine is so clean you can eat off it,I have been thinking of doing the same job on my engine, was the starter the only thing you covered? I'll use CD2 but it's good to know DG #265 is a good alternative. Well done :applause::thumb:
Looks fabulous!!! I'm going to have to check this DG 265 out as well. I usually use Adam's In & Out, but not sure how much longer it will be available. I didn't see anything about the underside of the hood. After cleaning, i wipe down with some spray wax or QD, but otherwise looks like it rolled right off the assembly line.
Thanks everybody! The DG 265 was purchased because of Sparkie. I saw the pics of one of his engine details and had to try it out. disturbd: I didn't cover the starter, just the alternator. Everything seems to be OK because it started up and ran with no problems. Hopefully I didn't mess anything up. Today I tackle the wheel wells, tires and wheels.
