    Hey guys,

I have been reading about needing to strip old wax or sealant before polishing.

Can someone recommend an effective (preferably not too expensive) way of doing this? Is there anything that is completely paint safe and safe on chrome trim, plastics, etc? I don't have a power-washer if that makes any difference.

    soak and dwell with APC
CG CWG (dont overdo its dilution else its bad for paint) but again this works for some people and doesnt work for everyone or really really old lsp thats like stuck

Zep Citrus at 4:1 pre soak with a pressurized sprayer or use a foam cannon or foam gun. I know use my foam cannon and put 2 oz of CG Maxisuds II and 2 oz of Zep Citrus then fill the rest of the bottle to 1000ml then snow foam the ride.

Remember I dont have a pressure washer....
Doesn't Zep have a negative effect on chrome trim pieces? I remember overtimedetailer stating he used that method and has poor results. I already have some Zep citrus, just wondering if it's safe.

You will be perfectly fine just dont go trying to strip your lsp off the car in the afternoon when the sun is out and it hot unless you have access to shade. Also make sure the paint is cool to the touch, dont go spraying any APC on it if the vehicle has ben sitting outside and the surfaces are hot. I have used it several times and it has never done anything to my chrome Cobra R wheels on my black 2004 Mustang gt or chrome trim pieces on my black 2010 Mercedes ML 350. Get a pressurized sprayer at home depot the 56oz ones are like $6 it works great with Zep or with ONR.

With your notation of 4:1, you do mean 4 parts water and one part Zep right? I was always taught to put whatever I was diluting on the left side and water on the right. If you are referring to 4 parts Zep, I have been using this too weak then as I always have it the other way around.

I would not use zep to strip LSP. it stain chrome pieces no matter if you're in the shade or using filter water, that's what I experienced. The cheaper and safe way to do it IMO, rinse the car, spray opt pc 4:1 via spray bottle, let sit for 1 min and rinse. if you still see breading then repeat the process. but do not let the product dry.

A pump sprayer with a dilution of your APC is the most economical way to go. You can start with a dilution of 4:1 ( water/APC ) and make it stronger if need be. Do a couple panels at a time to keep it from drying although with most APCs, reapplying it to areas that have dried will reactivate it and you'll be fine. Using CWG to strip LSP is a waste of product IMHO. You have to use too much and if the LSP is recent, it won't touch it.

How about P21s Total Auto Wash? That's what I have available and about to do this. What dilution for TAW would you use?

P21S TAW is what I use for LSP stripping and it works great right out of the bottle. No need to dilute.

What do you guys think about using Dawn or other dish soap to strip LSP?

And how do you guys use dawn? Just put a few ounces into a 3.5 gallon bucket with water and wash the car as if you were washing it regularly?

Ive used palmolive, dawn, etc....... 4:1 is fine, or even just fill a bucket of warm to hot water and put a few squirts in till it foams and wash the car. Ive even used it diluted down even more as clay lube in a pinch. You are fine at any ratio with dish soap as long as its a liquid.

A good strong mix of apc with a stripping soap(cwc for example) should gert everything off the surface. I prefer 4:1 and 2-4 ozs. of wash.

Does 4:1 mean 1 gallon Dawn to 4 gallons of water?
