    Hey guys,

New here, been detailing at the consumer - prosumer level for a quite a few years now. Went from Meguiars through other random products to Zaino which I've been using for a couple years now. Thanks to Phil at DD, I've been slowly upgrading products and getting into detailing at a more full prosumer level.

I think I'm ready to finally splurge and buy a Flex and all the associated polishes and etc, but I can't decide where to go from Zaino. I'm not quite interested in 100+ dollar waxes yet as my car is a fully rain or shine daily driver and takes winter abuse for at least the next year. Until I buy truer daily in the next couple years, for time being I'm looking to polish out my defects and start with something new that's very durable but also better looking than Zaino.

I surfed the LSP section all day and decided from the threads that Collinite 845 is going to be my nuba/sealant hybrid that seems to look better than Zaino but still has the durability I'm looking for.

Now I've seen some people don't top that with anything at all and some people like Lusso Oro (which Phil seems to like on his 845 as well). I was wondering if people had other recommendations (less than $100, or less than $75 preferably) for my color car to top 845 with for summer and car meets/drives. I'll probably just layer on Zaino and 845 for winter.

It's a hybrid light blue-silver metallic that looks bluer in daylight/some night lights and almost completely silver in other lights/angle. It's got a decent bit of flake to it but not a great deal of depth as it's a much lighter color.

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated.

I would run Collinite 476 topped with some Werkstat Carnauba Jett. For the money, it's tough to beat. Remember that it's all in the prep.

No matter what, I would run Collinite 476, as the durability is amazing. I like 'topping' darker colors with a nice carnauba.

Yes, I think that's (prep) where I've been the least satisfied. No matter what products I use, the lack of true polish prep has led to suboptimal results.
From reading it seems people think 476 is a pain to apply? 845 seems to carry a reputation of easy to work with and pretty durable, hence why I was leaning towards that over 476 or 915. Am I wrong in that respect?

love those CE28s mate, the met silver centres works perfectly on that color

im a huge JDM wheel fan....had SF Challenges on my 350Z (with custom Top Secret gold centres), and now Work VS-XX's on my M3. Cant beat JDM wheel quality

as for LSPs, id go a carnauba, something that brightens and has good optics/clarity, like Vic Red, SV Concorso, Zymol Glasur

845 is amazing stuff, it looks great and has crazy durability. 845 is also easy to apply, just go really thin and dont leave it on there too long, or you will have one hell of a time buffing off that stuff.

the only downsides i would say is that it doesnt smell the best, so it isnt much "fun" to apply. I always wear gloves when I apply it because I the applicator pad gets saturated with the wax and it will soak into your hands...although your hands will bead water

Thank you sir. I definitely am a big fan of JDM wheels, but I'll always love a good set of BBS wheels as well. Cannot beat some BBS GT2s on certain cars IMO. The VS-XXs are next in line for the G if I boost and want a more show set of wheels...I'll keep those CEs forever though.

The first picture is actually a photoshop before I actually had them, ironically I wanted bronze CEs to match my tan interior and do the whole blue/gold/tan theme, but once these came, all doubts were laid to rest.

Thanks for the recs guys. I think I will do the 845 and layer a carnauba on top. Phil at DD recommended Menzerna Power Lock, but it's twice the price and I think I'll try 845 out due to the many glowing reviews first. It's 15 bucks after all...

Keep those carnauba recs coming. :)

Would that also go for Silvers??
Does adding a Carnauba on top of the Collinite 476 change the beading qualities at all? Thks

I'd lay down a couple coats of Menzerna PowerLock then top it with RBOE. It will make that flake jump like no one's business.

Sorry, just found it - Rubbish Boy's, just never heard of this brand before.

Just to make sure I've got the order correct:

Menzerna PowerLock goes down first (as It's a sealant) ?
    Then Collinite 476
    Then RBOE

    Thks

I would skip the 476 and go straight to the RBOE. The application process with RBOE can be a bit daunting and take a bit as it can be a bear to work with -- but once it's on it's friggen amazing.

Phil seems to like the Powerlock as well...I'm sure it's very durable, but I can't get over the beading on the Collinite. Lifemal have you had experience with both products?
I wouldn't say I'm hesitant to try the Powerlock, but I usually wait a while to try brand new products (in all realms of life) and see what general opinion is before plunking my money down for it. Colli seems to be so affordable yet looks so good, I can't seem to tear myself away from it.

As you are probably aware, a good prep is going to yield you the best results. Once you get a hold of the Flex and some polishes, any wax/sealant choice is going to look much better with a properly prepped vehicle.

Having said that, Collinite 845 is an excellent choice. I recently tried it myself after going through a bunch of boutique waxes, and I am throughly impressed. I wish I had tried it much sooner. The beading and sheeting is some of the best I have encountered. For the price, you cannot go wrong. The collinite 476 is essentially the same wax but paste form and a little harder to work with and more longevity (not that the 845 is lacking in longevity). Personally with a car your color, I would prep it and use 845 alone. You could try topping it with a nuba, but I don't think you will see a noticeable difference. I have a light silver DD and did a polish and 845 about 3-4 weeks ago. I just tried putting some RBOE over a panel (panel had 845 alone) and didn't see any visible difference, so I didn't do the rest of the vehicle. Thats not to say that every color with 845 as a base wouldn't see a change with nuba on top.

As mentioned, RBOE is another good choice. A little finicky to work with, but following the steps people have outlined on the forum, its not so bad. I have both collinite 845 and RBOE, and I don't think you can go wrong with either. Looking at price and ease of use, 845 would get the nod.

Powerlock is relatively new. Maybe Phil can comment on its longevity. I still think it would be a waste to use it under 845, as most would consider the 845 a hybrid sealant/nuba. A sealant like powerlock would be better suited to go under a true nuba like RBOE. Another sealant you shouldn't overlook is Chemical guys JS109. The JS109/RBOE combo is another popular one that I have used myself as well.

Seems like a waste to do powerlock under 845. You could do 845 alone or top it with a nuba of your choice, including RBOE. Lighter colors may not see any noticeable difference toping it.

You could also go powerlock with RBOE or nuba of your choice on top. Most would consider the 845 a hybrid sealant/nuba, so no need to to really put a sealant underneath it.

Thanks a lot for your opinion musc, that's a nice summary. I am very excited to get a Flex as the prep is definitely what has been lacking. I think I will try the 845 out alone for now and then I might add a nuba on top if I'm not satisfied or move to powerlock w/ a nuba on top once I finish the 845 if I feel the urge for more stuff to waste my money despite the behest of the girlfriend not to...hehe.

No prob. :thumb: I am sure Phil will get you set up with all the stuff you'll need. As many here can attest, buying detailing products can be addictive. Soon you'll probably find yourself with a whole cupboard full of detailing stuff! :thumb:

That is really a sweet looking Z. With the proper prep any on the combos stated will yield great results. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
