Since I got into detailing recently, my dad has decided that he wants to take a little better care of our cars, partly 'cos he just got a BMW again. I've got him using microfiber (and not a squeegee :yikes: ) to dry his car and the two bucket method to wash it, stuff he'd never heard of a year ago :D Anyway, all of our cars need to be waxed, and we need to buy some new wax. I figured I'd ask on here and find out what wax would really make our cars stand out, and add some depth to the paint.

He has an '09 BMW 1 series, I believe the color is Crimson Red or something like that
I have an '09 VW GTI, Tornado Red
Mom has an '08 Mercedes GL450, in Obsidian Black

He's used a Zymol wax in the past, it was blue and came in a tub, I don't know the name of it off the top of my head. It seemed to work well, but I was wondering if anyone here knew of something different that might work better. We were thinking one wax for the BMW and VW, since they're almost the same color, and another one for the Mercedes, unless there's one that would work well on all of them. I'm not sure on a price range, I know he paid around $75 for the Zymol so I'd say around $100 tops unless I can convince him to treat himself to something really nice...

    Thanks,

    Clark

I would say something that would work on all those colors would be:

    RBOE
    Vics Chaos
    Zymol Glasur
    Autoglym HD

Its all in the Prep! I'd say get Zymol Glasur + CG EZ Creme (this stuff is seriously great).

I dont own Glasur, but its the next wax I'm getting. I heard it comparable to Concours but at almost half the price, and has better durability.

I'm pretty damn impressed with Autoglym HD wax at the moment. Retails at Walmart for ~$35. Can't beat that. If it lasts as long as Collinite 915, I'll probably be replacing 915.

try any of the pinnacle offerings. souveran paste or signature series 2 paste... fantastic waxes and a delight to apply and remove.. like spreading butter...

  7. Collinite 845 is always a contender :boxing:

Nattys Blue followed by Nattys Red would also look great on your GTI & Pops Bimmer :golf:

Just get some cheap stuff for Moms whip. She probally cares more about the interior then the exterior anyway :paranoia:

If durability isn't a concern, get Pinnacle Souveran. If you want a great limited availability wax get some Dodo Austintacious, or if you wanna splurge a bit go for some Dodo Supernatural. Supernatual is such an amazing wax, a bit harder to apply/remove and it may haze up, but I truly do think it may be the best looking wax in my arsenal.

Like Tom stated above, you may wanna consider Signature Series II. It's buy one get one free on Autogeek right now.

For 3 cars, some easy on and easy off would get my vote. These are the products I've used and liked.

    P21s Concours ($39) or 100% carnuba ($60)
    Zymol Glasur ($100)
    Any Swissvax wax ($99 up)

    Any, would fit the bill.

Someone else mentioned, its all in the prep. Trust him. At the very least, clay it first.

On those colors, I'd say Menz Powerlock for a sealant or Victoria Wax Mayhem for a wax.

I am with 911Fanatic, Menzerna Power Lock with a topper. I tried AutoGlym HD on a black Infiniti for the first time and I am very impressed with it. I have the P21S Concours and it is another nice wax.

  17. nothelle

    nothelle Birth of a Detailer

Blackfire WD or Menzerna Power Lock for Sealant coz they're so easy to apply
Colli915, CG5050 or RBOE for Carnauba

Wow...thanks for all the suggestions! Yes, durability is a factor in buying, we want something that will really last...especially on my GTI, since it sits outside all day when I'm at school. And I'd love to clay our cars first...but somewhere along the line, my dad was told that claying cars was used to remove the clearcoat, and even though I try to convince him otherwise, he doesn't fully believe me that it's not.

You can always convince pops by using Pinnacle's ultra poly clay, that's what i use. Pinnacle ultra poly clay is the least abrasive clay i know of.
