LOOK! - 8 Coats of 1Z einszett Glanz

Recently 1Z einszett Glanz peaked an interest when I saw Tommy's WRX Wagon in World Rally Blue (our clear film installer) I was blown away by the depth, gloss, metallic pop! It turned out to be Glanz....7 coats! I was speechless!

I finally had a chance on Thursday to work on my car. The first wash in 2 months! (yup I just said that)

The car didn't need any claying just a good wash and Menzerna Super Finish with the Flex 3403 and an Uber Green Pad.

7 out of the 8 coats were done within a couple of hours with a PC 7424XP using an Uber Black Pad. After applying the Glanz on the whole car I removed it with an Uber Classic MF Towel. The 8th coat was done today (car was rinsed prior)

That's what that was! I was wondering what LSP product that was....

 

wow looks like i need to order this wax and try it out. how much durability you think that many coats will add?

I was thinking about how this effect is being achieved. If the look is coming from the oils and other additives in the wax to enhance gloss then wouldn't think there is much durability added. If in fact the carnauba is getting thicker with each layer making a thick carnauba shell then isn't that effectively turning the car into a giant m&m?

Very nice Phil, but I honestly doubt there is 8 layers (and 7 on your friend's) on there.
You may have applied it 8 times, but as per a relatively recent test conducted by a newish member on DW, with silicon wafers and all the toys to measure those, the outcome was even with allowing for a full 24 hours cure time, some of the first layer was removed when the second one was applied.
That was by hand, so with the additional friction of a DA/rotary, even on low speed, the build up of layers would be minimal.

I've personally long since given multiple layers a wide berth, and instead will do a fortnightly application (when possible).

Tommy did his over 6 months.

For me I really wanted to see what I would get in shine and depth, durability for me doesn't matter all too much if I get 1-3 months I'm fine.

Just wanted my car to pop, to me the effect was accomplished.

 

Phil i've never seen paint come alive like that .... a 10 buddy !

Is there any trick to layering that stuff? Like ice cold water in between?

So you had to one up the subie guy by doing an 8th coat?! haha car looks amazing! I take it you don't have to wait a certain amaout of time to top the Glanz wax?

 

I remember reading about this a while back. I can't believe this information hasn't spread around more. It is very interesting read. Anything over 2 coats seems redundant although this car looks amazing no matter what.
