Well a few days a go I mentioned how I've been meaning to get my hands on a sea sponge but just haven't placed the order through, well pooter read this and volunterely sent me a PM asking for my address and other information so he could send me one. I felt bad because I know these sponges aren't cheap but pooter persisted...well I now have the sea sponge I've been eagerly awaiting and just kept putting it off.

So pooter I am in your debt my friend and thank you for the sponge, it really means a lot to me :thumb:

Here are some pictures of the sponge:

    Again pooter thank you :worship2: :worship2: :worship2:

So um...pooter now that I have it what do I do? How long should I let the sponge soack for? I know there is a preping enitiation with these sponges an from what I've read you leave the sponge soaking in a bucket of water for a day or two but like I said that's just information I've read. I have no idea if it's true or not, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well from what I've read the sea sponge will hold more soap giving it more lubrication, it also has many pores...now this is where I don't know if I agree with what they say about it. They say that the pores make it almost imposible to pick up debri and if it does it will release the debri with easy when using the two bucket method. Like I said this is one of the areas that I question but only by using it will I be able to know.

Well all I know about these sponges comes from jut reading, like I said before I don't know if what I've read is true or not so don't quote me on what I'm saying becuase I could be out to lunch

IDK... if it's easy release, it's gotta be easy pick up. that's just what I think. Holds more soap huh???

Nica if it doesn't work, you can just start a fish tank.

Yea, I can understand your logic Dust2Glory but I've chatted with some members that have been using the sea sponge for quite some time and they swear by it and wouldn't use anything but the sea sponge. So I figured I'd give it a go and experiance it for my self.

Sea sponges are far superior to GS especially with a rinseless product. With a GS (and schmitt for that matter) dirt really doesn't have any place to go. A sea sponge and LC Ulti-Mitt are my go to wash medias. D2G, the dirt does get removed from the surface and when ring out in the bucket it is released. If not all of it gets released, it is away from the surface so it can't marr. Nica, try not to use the flat side that is cut. MY only gripe about sea sponges is that they are small and expensive. However they are very very durable, which makes up for the costs.

    Nica,

1st of all you are very welcome. In order to prep it, I wash it in a washing machine 2-3 times, no detergent. When that is completed, let it sit in a bucket of water over night...pref with a grit guard. after it sits over night just wring it out in the bucket for about 15 -20 minutes over and over.

The reason this is performed though they are cleaned prior to packaging, not all of the sand gets out of the sponge. The above process typically takes care of any left overs. I have been using these sponges solely for a few years now and will not use anything else. They are FAR superior IMO to any sponge there is. Make your own determination though and let me know how it goes.

What pooter mentioned above is precisely the reason I won't use sea sponges. There's grit on them right from the get go. Granted you can likely remove most of it. I guess I don't see the benefit. Perhaps I'll get one (where do you get them?) to give a whack at.

Autogeek has them priced decently Mindflux.

Of course they have sand in them, they are harvested from the sea, these are not man made. They are by far the softest, most porous, most absorbant sponge you will every buy and as stated earlier in the thread they are extremely durable.

I used a sea sponge for 2 years on soft paint cars..its a great wash item....feels so silky when wet and holds a ton of soapy water...I paid 29.99 for it at the time...never marred paint once...and you would be surprised how much stuff was in your rinse bucket....

But I left it out after a wash on the drying rack ...and my dogs got it and shredded it..there were baby sea sponges all over the place....needless to say I did not get another because 30.00 was hard to swallow after loosing one....

butmake sure you clean them good before using...wash and rinse them a few times..some do come thru with a little sand in them...but clean them good...once cleaned your golden ...they release grit real nice...they feel like silk...

Plus all of the dirt and debris is found inside of the sponge. Even if you didn't remove all of it, it is still on the interior of the sponge = it can't marr. The only issue is it coming out from the sponge while washing, which shouldn't be a concern if you prep them properly. If you are in the market for a sea sponge, get a Wool Sea Sponge. I got mine off the docks in Tarpon Springs, FL.

They're 20 on Autogeek. Problem is if I need a new one I gotta order it online. I really hate dependence on online retailers for stuff if I need something in a flash. The Eurow lambs wool mitts at walmart have done me good thus far.

the ones from AG are smaller than the one I had...I got a 12-14 inch sea wool sponge...I got mine from a ebay merchant...thing was huge...and she cleaned it very good..had just about no sand in it when it arrived...
